Alec Burleson has been one of baseball’s best hitters over the past two months.

Burleston is the only MLB hitter in the top five in both RBIs and hits since the start of June. He has 55 hits and 42 RBIs since June 1. Only New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has had more RBIs (44) in that span.

Burleson, the former East Carolina outfielder and current Cardinal, is batting .289 with 18 home runs and 60 RBIs just a week after the All-Star break. He has played his way into an every-day player. The former Pirate (2018-20) is in his third season with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are 53-49 and in second place in the NL Central division, 6.0 games behind Milwaukee for the lead.

    Gavin Williams, Cleveland

The former ECU pitcher (2018-21) yielded three earned runs and six hits over 3.2 innings in a July 20 start against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was his first start since the All-Star break.

Williams is 0-2 this season with a 4.50 ERA in four starts since returning from the injured list. Cleveland (61-40) is leading the AL Central by 5.0 games.

Williams threw 82 innings and made 16 starts for Cleveland last season.

    Connor Norby, Baltimore (Triple-A)

The former ECU infielder from 2019-21 is getting his second taste of The Show.

Baltimore infielder Jorge Mateo left Tuesday’s game with an injury and the team said he is expected to miss some time and land on the injured list. Baltimore will call up Norby, who went 3-for-14 with a home run in his first stint with the Orioles.

Norby is batting .297 with 16 home runs, 57 RBIs, 13 stolen bases and 71 runs scored in 80 games with the Norfolk Tides.

He took advantage of his short time in the major leagues and his first hit was a two-run home run that came in a 10-1 win over Toronto on June 4.

    Carson Whisenhunt, San Francisco (Triple-A)

Currently playing at Triple-A Sacramento, the former ECU pitcher (2020-22) is one step away from the big leagues.

Whisenhunt owns a 5.84 ERA over 19 starts. He has 102 strikeouts and 43 walks in 77.0 innings. Whisenhunt has a 2-5 record.

Whisenhunt pitched at three minor league levels last season and dominated them all with big strikeout numbers (83 punchouts in 58.2 innings). He is the Giants’ second-rated prospect who was selected to play in the Futures Game a year ago.

    Zach Agnos, Colorado (Double-A)

Agnos, a former ECU shortstop (2020-22) and current reliever in the Rockies system, was promoted to Double-A Hartford on June 26. This is his third level in the minors this season after being promoted to High-A Spokane earlier this year.

Agnos, who led the minor leagues in saves with 27 last season in low-A Fresno, is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Agnos has one save and two holds. He has scattered five hits and allowed one earned run with seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings.

    Bryson Worrell, Atlanta (Double-A)

The former ECU outfielder (2018-22) has played at four minor league levels this season. He is currently playing at High-A Rome after stints in Triple-A and Double-A.

Worrell has played one game since the break and scored a run on Wednesday. He is batting .190 with six home runs and 25 RBIs in 47 games across four levels this season.

    Josh Moylan, Yankees (High-A)

The former ECU first baseman (2021-23) is in his second season of pro ball and first full year since joining the Yankees farm system.

Moylan is batting .236 with four home runs and 24 RBIs with 55 hits and 33 runs scored.

Moylan homered and walked on Tuesday, and had a nine-game hitting streak earlier this season.

    Carter Spivey, Cleveland (High-A)

Spivey, the former American Athletic Conference pitcher of the year for ECU, is 6-1 with a 3.40 ERA for the High-A Lake County Captains. He has 64 strikeouts over 90.0 innings.

Spivey has not allowed more than one run in any of his last five starts. He tossed 6.0 scoreless innings with one hit his last time out on July 20 and struck out five. His ERA in July is 0.47.

    Josh Grosz, Yankees (Single-A)

The former ECU right-hander (2021-23) is pitching for Single-A Tampa after a brief stint in Double-A. Grosz is 3-7 with a 5.40 ERA across three levels this season.

Grosz scattered three hits over 5.1 scoreless innings in his first start since the break.

He has struck out 91 batters over 73.1 innings.
