GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Heavy rain throughout the week has submerged multiple parks across the East. Greenville Recreation and Parks put out a post marking multiple locations that would be closed on Friday, and they continue to monitor those locations as the weekend weather moves in.

City Projects and Development Manager for the City of Greenville Mark Nottingham said with the greenway located close to the Tar River, portions of the South Tar River Greenway will flood and become inundated. Barricades are put up around those areas to keep people out of the flooded sections.

Closed areas included the Town Common boat ramp, the off-leash dog park, and the Green Springs Park Trail near the Greenwood Cemetery and Cypress Glenn.

Nottingham also mentioned that after the storms, the flooding can go on for days. “Generally, right after the rain happens, we don’t see the river flooding, it’s usually a few days later,” Nottingham said.

“The rain starts to accumulate in the Tar River, then once the river gets above 10 feet, we can expect certain areas to be closed,” Nottingham said.
