    Weekend events include Jewish Film Festival, India Day 2024, comic Brian Regan

    Upstate events this weekend include a Jewish Film Festival, a Star Wars exhibit, and India Day 2024.

    Here is a list of events taking place in the Upstate this weekend.

    Jewish Film Festival

    Watch "Call Me Dancer," part of the Jewish Film Festival , at the Gunter Theatre at the Peace Center, 101 W. Broad St., Greenville. The screening will occur at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. Call 864-467-3030 for more information.

    Comic Brian Regan

    You've seen him on Netflix and Comedy Central, and now you can see comedian Brian Regan in Spartanburg.

    Regan will perform at 7 p.m. on Aug. 24. at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium . Regan's credits include "Loudermilk," "Brian Regan: On The Rocks," "Brian Regan: Stand Up and Away," "Brian Regan: Nunchucks and Flamethrowers," "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," and "Live from Radio City Music Hall."

    Finding the Force...Awakening An Empire

    The Exhibit Drop-in Tour, Finding the Force ... Awakening An Empire, will take place at the Upcountry History Museum , 540 Buncombe St., Greenville, from 3:30-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.

    Explore Finding the Force: Awakening an Empire with a guided tour led by UHM Education Coordinator Sarah Wright. This exhibition features original costumes and props from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Get a behind-the-scenes look at how the Star Wars universe has expanded since the first film premiered in 1977 and explore the franchise's legacy through rare collectibles from the original trilogy and beyond. After the tour, test your Star Wars knowledge with rapid-round trivia.

    Drop-in tours will occur on select Fridays at 3:30 p.m., lasting approximately 30 minutes.

    India Day 2024

    The India Association of Greenville will celebrate India's Independence Day, marking 77 years of freedom and sovereignty on India Day 2024 .

    This event will take place from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Graham Plaza at the Peace Center, 300 S. Main St.

    This free event is set to attract around 20,000 visitors. It will feature open-mat yoga and meditation, a parade, a flag-hoisting ceremony, and cultural performances.

    The open bar and All-Pro Smoke Show will occur from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

    Executive Chef Andy Knudson and the All-Pro Smoke Show will feature acclaimed pitmasters from North and South Carolina and showcase various low—and slow-cooking methods and techniques over various forms of live fire.

    Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy fresh samples straight off the fire, whole hog, beef ribs, chicken, fish, seafood, and coal-roasted root vegetables, and pair them with their wide range of BBQ delicacies with curated wine, beer, and cocktails.

    Celebrate Anderson University's new football team

    Anderson University will hold an event to celebrate the start of the new football season starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Trojan Football coaches and players will attend to meet and greet visitors as part of the inaugural Trojan Football Fan Day.

    Crispi Festival

    Do you enjoy a good cold beer? Consider checking out the annual Crispi Festival at New Groove Artisan Brewery, located at 4078 in Boiling Springs, from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. CrispiFest will be held outside in the back of the brewery. Tents will provide shade, and the taproom will be open during and after the event.

    According to the event organizers, all tickets except for Designated Drivers will receive a festival taster, unlimited water, live music, and the fellowship of the community coming together over fine lagers.

    The High Tides will perform two 75-minute sets in the festival area from 2-6 p.m. This year, the Crispi Festival is expanding to reach the greater community to celebrate the season with an artisan market with 15 plus local vendors, food trucks, awesome activities, and more.     Access to the Market, Food, and Activities is free for the public. However, you must purchase a ticket to attend the Crispi Fest Beer Garden. Premium general admission is $75, general admission is $15, and designated driver tickets are $10. Click here for more information about tickets.

    Emo Kids at Ground Zero

    Emo Kids will perform on Saturday, August 24, at Ground Zero, at 3050 Howard St., in Spartanburg. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Advance ticket prices are $22.50 and $28 at the door. Click here to purchase tickets www.seetickets.us/event/emo-kids/606282

    Cornhole tournament

    Are you a fan of cornhole? If so, you may want to consider joining the Tossin at the Grove Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, August 24, at 150 Dalton Drive, in Pendleton.

    Check-in starts at 10 a.m., and the games begin at 11 a.m. The entry fee is $50 per team or $25 per player. The tournament will feature team sets and double elimination rounds.

    According to event organizers , if you attend without a partner, they will help you find one. To sign up, download the app SCOREHOLIO to pre-register. The prize pot starts at $500 with an 80% payout and $40 per team.
