Hurricane Helene: Greenville, Upstate businesses announce closings; event delays

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Wednesday to prepare for Hurricane Helene.

Many businesses, libraries, and government offices are closing, and festivals and events have been postponed in the Upstate. Local authorities advise residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel until the storm passes.

Here is a list of closures and postponed events in the Upstate.

Greenville County

--The City of Greenville Sanitation Department said that Friday's schedule will resume as normal. However, residents are advised to stay updated in case of any changes due to Hurricane Helene.

--All Greenville County Libraries will close at 6 p.m. Thursday and remain closed Friday, September 27, due to anticipated severe weather from Hurricane Helene.

--The Greenville Zoo is closed on Thursday and Friday. The animals are safe, dry, and indoors.

--Greenville Community Center afterschool programs, youth soccer and pickleball leagues, and all Prisma Health Welcome Center events at Unity Park are canceled.

--Champion Comfort Expert Moonlight Movies at Falls Park is canceled for Thursday night.

--Due to the forecast for hazardous weather and road conditions, Meals on Wheels of Greenville will not deliver meals Friday, September 27. According to Meals on Wheels of Greenville personnel, frozen meals were delivered Wednesday, and they will take care of our clients throughout the weekend. --Due to anticipated severe weather, all Pickens County offices, including the landfill, will open at noon. on Friday, Sept. 27. Recycle centers will remain closed all day Friday and resume normal hours on Saturday. The delay ensures the safety of staff and the public, helping to prevent travel in potentially hazardous conditions.

--Greenlink will operate on a two-hour delay, with service beginning at 7:30 a.m. to allow drivers daylight for better visibility and accident prevention.

--City Hall will open at noon on Friday, September 27.

--According to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office - South Carolina business offices will be closed Friday, 9/27/24, due to the projected severe weather. Our 9-1-1 dispatch center will operate normally, and deputies will be on duty to answer calls for service. Our business offices will reopen on Monday, 9/30/24, at 8:30 a.m.

City of Pickens

--According to the City of Pickens, City Hall will be closed Friday, Sept. 27, for all but essential operations and disaster response. Call 864-777-9500 to report downed trees, blocked roads, or flooding. Call 911 for medical or other emergencies.

--According to the City of Pickens, all Pickens Parks & Recreation events (games and practices) and Open Gym are canceled for Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th. The hosting agency will determine away games, and coaches will be notified.

--According to the City of Pickens, we will collaborate with other departments to reschedule as many games as possible.

--Pickens County Library System has announced that the Craft Swap at the Hampton Memorial Library has been postponed due to the weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday, September 27. Please stay tuned for a new date.

--According to United Christian Ministries. Due to the potential for flooding and high winds, we will be closed tomorrow (Friday) to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers. We will reopen on Monday at 9:00 a.m. for food, clothing, rent & utility assistance.

--According to United Christian Ministries, if you need emergency food assistance over the weekend, The Storehouse at 5 Point Church will be open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

--According to Tim's Towing. Due to the high winds & the road flooding conditions expected Thursday evening & all day Friday, we will not be running our trucks on the roads & putting our drivers in danger. Out of an abundance of caution, we will close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday & will be closed all day Friday. We will re-open on Monday.

Spartanburg County

--Despite the storm, Spartanburg County officials have announced that trash services will run as scheduled on Friday, September 27.

--Love Me Some Lace, located at 155 E Broad St. in Spartanburg, will be closed on Thursday and Friday, September 27, due to the impending storm.

--All Spartanburg County Library locations will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, due to weather conditions.

--All Little River Coffee locations will open on a delayed schedule at 9 a.m.

--Sugah Cakes (551 E. Main St) is closed Friday.

City of Mauldin

According to the City of Mauldin Communication Manager, Lauren Carter, in light of the severe weather in the Upstate area and the interest of safety for city employees and the public, the following changes are being made to the City's operations.

• Trash pickup for Friday, September 27, has been canceled. The makeup day will be Monday, September 30.
• - All Mauldin Recreation sports programming is canceled for the afternoon/evening of Thursday, September 26.
• - The Mauldin Sports Center will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 26.
• - City offices, including City Hall, the Mauldin Sports Center, Ray W. Hopkins Mauldin Senior Center, and the Mauldin Cultural Center, will open at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 27.
• - The Mighty Kicks performance at the Mauldin Cultural Center on Friday night is still scheduled to proceed. Any updates will be posted on the Mauldin Cultural Center Facebook page.

City of Anderson

--According to the City of Anderson, Anderson Sanitation services will be delayed two hours on Friday, September 28, due to weather alerts. Please plan accordingly.

--According to Anderson County. Government offices will be closed on Friday, September 27, 2024, due to Hurricane Helene's predicted inclement weather. Employees will work remotely; however, emergency personnel and the County's public works division will be on duty during the closure.

--The Anderson County Convenience Centers and MRF will be closed on Friday, September 27, 2024. However, they will operate during regular business hours this Saturday. For non-emergent calls, trees blocking roadways, etc., please report on the ACSCGov App or at https://seeclickfix.com/repor t.

--According to Denver Downs owner Catherine Garrison Davis, "Due to power outages and damage to Helene, we will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29. The farm will open on Friday, October 4, at 5:00 p.m. Field trips will still be on schedule for the weekdays."

-Due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Helene, Anderson County Meals on Wheels has announced that it will temporarily suspend services on Friday, September 27.

--Jo Brown Senior Citizen Center in Anderson will be closed on Friday, September 27, due to the anticipated severe weather conditions brought by Hurricane Helene.

--Senior citizens who typically rely on the center's services are advised to make alternative arrangements. For more information, please contact the center directly at 864-231-2237.

--According to the City of Anderson. City Hall and the Municipal Business Center Offices will be closed on Friday, September 27th. The City will be staffing an Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and operational employees will be staffed to work throughout the storm.

--According to Anderson County Library. Due to the expected severe weather conditions, All Anderson County Library locations will be closed on Friday, September 27th. Unless stated otherwise, all library locations will reopen for normal hours on Saturday, September 28th.

--Due to unfavorable weather conditions, we have rescheduled unveiling our new StoryWalk in Belton at the Bubblegum Rail Trail. For more information about hurricane preparedness, visit https://www.noaa.gov/hurricane-prep .

--According to City Seed at the Station. We will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 27th, due to Helene causing havoc in the southeastern United States. We hope to be back open on Saturday 8:30 a.m. until noon.

--According to Peoples Bank, due to inclement weather, our locations will open at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27th.

--According to the Anderson County Museum, Homeschool Friday has been canceled due to the weather predicted for Friday, September 27, to ensure the safety of all our students and families.

--According to Wilhelmina's Kitchen, we will be closed on Friday, September 27, due to weather. We resume normal business hours on Sunday.

City of Clemson

--According to the City of Clemson, all city parks will close at 5 p.m. Thursday. Commercial trash pickup for downtown businesses will be moved to the morning of Saturday, September 28.

--CAT bus routes have been modified due to Hurricane Helene. The final bus of the night will depart from downtown Clemson on the Red-Central Route at 11:15 p.m. Red-Clemson at 11:24 p.m., and Highpoint-Pier at 11:15 p.m.

--According to Clemson University. Tigerama, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27, has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution related to event setup and travel considerations for performers and guests.

--Tigerama will occur on Friday, October 18, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. X Ambassadors is still scheduled to perform following the event, and all purchased tickets will be honored on Oct. 18. Ticket information is available on the Tigerama website.

--The Central Spirit float build and Habitat for Humanity build on Bowman Field will continue as weather permits.

--According to Central Clemson Recreation Center. Due to inclement weather, we will delay our opening on Friday, September 27th. We will open at 12:00 p.m. If any further changes are made to facility hours or schedules, you will be notified via email as soon as possible.
