    Here's a list of volunteer opportunities and donation drives in the Upstate

    Are you looking for a way to help the Upstate after Helene? We're compiling this list to serve as a central hub for volunteer opportunities. We'll do our best to keep it up-to-date in the coming days.

    This list is not comprehensive, so be sure to check with your favorite local businesses, nonprofits, parks and organizations for any relief or assistance efforts set up. We've also asked those who know of opportunities to help to reach out to me at sswetlik@gannett.com or 404-490-0838, or localnews@gannett.com. Here are some opportunities

    Help clean up Sadlers Creek State Park

    Friends of Sadlers Creek State Park announced that they are looking for volunteers to work on the trail at the park on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Rangers will go through the trail with a chainsaw and need help cleaning up what is cut, as well as other debris.

    The group will meet at the park office.

    Questions should be directed to Ranger Felton at 864-226-8950.

    Help clean up the Cottonwood Trail with Spartanburg Area Conservancy

    Spartanburg Area Conservancy announced on social media that they will host the first of many trail cleanup days at the Cottonwood Trail on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event is open to all ages and will not require heavy lifting according to the Instagram announcement .

    The group will meet at the Fernwood Pool for cleanup 9 a.m.-noon.

    Donations:

    United Way of Greenville County

    Continuing through Saturday, Oct. 5, United Way of Greenville County is accepting various donations , including canned goods, diapers and hygiene products.

    Items can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 105 Edinburgh Court, Greenville, SC 29607.

    Here are the items you can bring:

    • Canned goods (vegetables, fruits, soups, meats)
    • Boxed meals (pasta, rice, cereal)
    • Peanut butter and protein bars
    • Bottled water and sports drinks
    • Diapers, baby wipes, and formula
    • Hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, feminine hygiene)
    • First aid supplies (bandages, pain relievers)
    • Cleaning supplies (disinfectant wipes, trash bags)

    City of Greenville's "Fill the Penske for Greenville" donation drive

    The City of Greenville will also partner with United Way to accept needed items from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 5, during the TD Saturday Market.

    Safe Harbor donation drive

    Local nonprofit Safe Harbor is partnering with Upstate Warrior Solution to host a donation drive that will last for several weeks, a spokesperson said. Items will go to their shelter, housing and advocacy program and resale shop.

    Items can be dropped off in the lobby of the Rupert Huse Veteran Center at 770 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Here are the items Safe Harbor is requesting:

    • Batteries
    • Regular and solar portable chargers
    • Paper products
    • Canned goods
    • Microwave meals
    • Battery-operated fans
    • Disinfectant wipes
    • Arts and crafts items
    • Non-perishable foods
    • Restaurant gift cards
    • Extension cords
    • Box fans
    • Dehumidifiers
