COLUMBIA — Former South Carolina football star quarterback Spencer Rattler will make his NFL debut on Sunday, the New Orleans Saints announced on social media Wednesday evening.

The Saints (2-3) face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home in the Caesars Superdome (1 p.m. ET, FOX).

The rookie QB was selected No. 150 overall in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and has been on the roster behind quarterback Derek Carr. Carr suffered an injury on Monday against the Kansas City Chiefs and an MRI revealed an oblique injury.

NBC reported that Carr will miss multiple weeks. Jake Haener is another quarterback on the Saints' depth chart. Haener was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 draft and replaced Carr after Carr was injured.

Rattler spent three years at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina to play two years as the Gamecocks ' offensive leader. He finished his college career with 900 completions for 10,907 passing yards and 77 touchdowns. He rushed for 410 yards on 297 attempts. In the preseason for the Saints, he was 20-for-38 for 202 yards and one touchdown.
