GREENVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — After the official resignation of Greenville Chief Eric Roberts two weeks ago, a new chief of police has been sworn in.

Ryan Benge was officially sworn in as Greenville Chief of Police on Wednesday, July 17. Our partners at The Daily Advocate were there as he was sworn in alongside his wife and two kids.

Benge is a lifelong Darke County resident who graduated from Ansonia High School in 2008. After serving in the Army, he returned to the area to begin a career in law enforcement in 2013.

As the new chief, Benge plans to strive for excellence and improve staff resources. He also wants to ensure the department is a part of the community.

“In my more than 10 years with the Greenville Police Department, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most dedicated men and women I’ve ever met,” said Benge. “To have the opportunity to be their Chief of Police is an indescribable feeling.

“I’m ready to hit the ground running with an energized command staff.”

Alongside Benge, Joe Monnin was promoted to lieutenant and Alan Smith was sworn in as the new patrol sergeant.
