Tuesday marked the reopening of Greenville’s Gower Park after major renovations that began last year.

A ribbon cutting was held to mark the introduction of the revamped park, featuring repaved parking, renovated and expanded athletic courts, and additional rentable park shelters.

“We’ve gotten two basketball courts, three new tennis courts, as well as three new shade structures,” District 1 Greenville City Councilman John Deworken explained. “We’ve gotten ten new benches throughout the park space and ten new pickleball courts. So when you add all that up, there’s approximately 9,000 square feet of additional court space that we’re ready to enjoy in the weeks, months and years ahead here in Gower Park.”

Mayor Knox White also spoke at the ribbon cutting, explaining that the $1.4 million renovation of the park is part of the $28 million Neighborhood Infrastructure Bond passed in 2022.

He further explained that the renovations are part of a city-wide effort to improve all of the area’s neighborhood parks to similar standard as those such as Falls Park and Unity Park.
