South Carolina was ranked in the bottom ten states for nurses in the US according to a recent WalletHub study.

The study looked at two main parameters. The first was Opportunity & Competition, which includes things like salaries, nursing school quality and tuition, and available openings. The second parameter was Work Environment, which includes aspects such as commute times and work hours, public hospital quality and regulations, and ratio of nurses to hospital beds.

South Carolina ranked almost exactly middle-of-the-pack in opportunity and competition, but ranked 47th in Work Environment, just three places from dead last.

In total, the Palmetto state placed 43rd, or 8th from the bottom. Georgia and North Carolina were much closer to average, ranking 29th and 27th respectively.

This comes as Bob Jones University prepares for its Nurses Pinning ceremony later this week.

The ceremony is set for Thursday, May 2nd at 2pm in Rodeheaver Auditorium on the school’s campus, where 43 nursing students are set to graduate and receive a special cross-themed pin in connection to the program’s Christian emphasis.
