    Dutch company sets up first North American operation in Greenville

    A supplier of expandable, movable spaces has selected Greenville County to establish the company’s first North American operation. The $3 million investment will create 10 new jobs.

    Based in the Netherlands, Expandable LLC designs multifunctional and customizable expandable, movable spaces. The company’s expandable trailers and pods are used in a variety of applications such as mobile work and learning, events and roadshows, and sales and promotion space, according to the company website. The company says its objective is to deliver high quality space quickly.

    “We strive to offer spaces that are not only versatile and easily transportable but also embody excellence in design, functionality and customization,” the company says on its website.

    The company’s 40,000-square-foot facility at 7120 Augusta Road in Piedmont serves as a showroom, warehouse and the company’s head office for North American sales and service, according to a news release.

    “Greenville, S.C., was the perfect location for our first foreign expansion,” Expandable LLC Managing Director Sander Scholten said in the release. “The North American market has been an important growth area for us over the past few years, so we needed to establish a local presence. With its strategic location, infrastructure and available talent pool, this is the place where we wanted to be.”

    Operations are already online and the company is hiring .

    “We are thrilled to welcome Expandable LLC to Greenville as they embark on their North American expansion,” Greenville Area Development Council Interim President and CEO Kevin Landmesser said in the release. “Our vibrant business community, skilled workforce and strategic location offer the perfect environment for their growth and success. Greenville looks forward to supporting Expandable’s journey and celebrating their achievements in the years to come.”
    Expandable was founded because owner Michiel Becx wanted something that wasn’t available on the market a movable space that is easy to operate, affordable, and with a short lead time. The company’s latest product line is highlighted by the Expandable Touchdown.

    “We proudly welcome Expandable LLC, a Dutch company known for its innovative technology, to the Upstate’s international business community,” Upstate SC Alliance President and CEO John Lummus said in the release. “Their choice to establish a presence in Upstate S.C. underscores our region’s appeal as a prime location for European companies looking to lay a foundation for growth in the U.S.”
