The legal fight between a fired professor and an Upstate university continues. As we previously reported, long time Computer Scene Professor Christopher Healy was terminated by Furman University, in April of this year.

His firing is centered around Healy attending an infamous 2017 protest rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that turned deadly. Healy has now filed suit against Furman for wrongful termination and multiple other claims. An investigation was launched by Furman in 2022 when photos of Healy standing with white supremacist hate groups.

Healy was later put on paid suspension by the university. Furman has proposed dismissal of the suit on grounds that Healy is a racist and his beliefs impaired him from objectively grading students in an unbiased manner.

Healy's attorney says that claims into his grading have no real basis and there's been no evidence that he discriminated against any students.

The suit claims that SLED was contacted by Furman Police to investigate Healy's attendance at the rally, SLED declared none of Healy's actions were criminal and were protected by free speech. The lawsuit is still ongoing.
