A Greenville teen has been arrested in connection to a woman’s death.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Mon’Drikus Raphael Griffin, 17, was taken into custody on June 18 and charged as an adult with murder, carjacking, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He is accused of fatally shooting Kasia Diera Simmons, 38, of Simpsonville on June 12.

Simmons and Griffin were traveling in a vehicle on Wilson Creed Road in Greenwood County at about 8 p.m. with two young children, according to Greenwood Sheriff's Capt. Josh Hood. Simmons was shot after the children got out of the vehicle. Deputies found the children and Simmons’s body alongside the road.

Hood said the children were also "victims."

Griffin fled in the vehicle after the shooting, according to Hood. The car was found the next day behind a Greenwood residence.

Griffin was being held in the Greenwood County Detention Center. The investigation continues.
