    A rusted drill used to mix food & more in Greenville area restaurants with worst June inspections

    Crawling insects, grease and debris on counters, walls and floors and a rusted Dewalt drill used for food preparation were among the infractions health inspectors found in Greenville area restaurants in June.

    Employees of the Department of Health and Environmental Control, which became the South Carolina Department of Public Health on July 1, conducted 320 inspections, routine and follow ups, in June. Nine scored a C on routine inspections, the lowest grade.

    The vast majority, 277, scored A.

    Tokyo Grill and Supreme Buffet at 6124 White Horse Road in Greenville was inspected on June 12 and given a score of 60.

    The inspector saw an employee washing hands in the prep sink, washing on prep sink without soap, handle dirty dishes and then clean dishes without washing hands and the dishwashing room blocked by cart of dishes. There was no soap or paper towels in an employee bathroom. No paper towels by other sinks used by employees.

    Dirty knives were stored between the prep cooler and table and debris was found inside the ice machine by the server station.

    The buffet, which included octopus, and a walk-in cooler where raw shrimp, chicken and beef and crab were stored were found to be at improper temperatures. The walk-in cooler did not go below 41 degrees

    There was a can of WD40 on a shelf with food products and there were signs of rodents in a storage room.

    The backdoor had gaps and a broken screen and there was garbage on the ground by the dumpster.

    The lighting throughout the kitchen was not at the proper intensity.

    Waffle House #1725 , 8006 White Horse Road in Greenville was inspected on June 18 and given a score of 74.

    The inspector saw an employee fail to wash hands when changing tasks and donning new gloves. There was a coffee pot in the hand sink and a potato slicer, waffle maker and mixer had a buildup of debris.

    The waffle batter was not at the proper temperature.

    The restaurant was marked down for a consecutive violation of crawling insects under the three compartment sink and in cabinets in the front kitchen.

    A buildup of debris was seen on the prep cooler and shelving throughout the restaurant. And an employee put their bags on top of the bread racks.

    Armando’s Burritos at 206-A Pine Knoll Drive in Greenville was inspected on June 4 and scored 77.

    The inspector saw multiple cans of food rusted and heavily dented. Food was not cooled property.

    The was pesticide in a cabinet under the microwave.

    Plastic bags, intended for single use, were reused and stored with the clean dishes.

    Epic Buffet OF East Bank at 3940 Grandview Drive in Simpsonville was inspected on June 19 and scored 80.

    The inspector saw raw chicken in a stand up cooler stored above ready to eat foods as well as buckets of raw chicken. The hot buffet was not at the proper temperature. It included popcorn chicken and fried fish.

    The sushi bar was not marked correctly with dates.

    Containers in dry storage and throughout the kitchen had no covers or were covered with cardboard.

    A rusted Dewalt drill was being used to mix food.

    Rincon Latina Restaurant , 1902 Easley Bridge Road, Greenville, was inspected on June 11 and scored 83.

    The inspector saw an employee eating on the prep line, improper temperatures in cold holding and kitchen buffet.

    Residential pest control was found in the facility. Isopropyl alcohol stored above single service items. Grease was oozing from containers.

    Clock Drive In , 1801 Easley Bridge Road, Greenville was inspected on June 11 and scored 84.

    The inspector saw an employee cooking and serving food without gloves, no date markings in the kitchen walk-in cooler and bread stored on the floor.

    Also, there was residential pest control spray in the restaurant.

    Wendy’s #32, 943 N Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville was inspected on June 6 and scored 84.

    The inspector saw an employee arrive for work and begin cooking without washing hands.

    Various foods such as raw meat patties, cut tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, blue cheese, cooked pinto beans and half and half were not at proper temperatures while being stored in a cooler. The manager said the unit was turned off during delivery the day before.

    Sanitizer solution was stored on the lid of meat patties.

    Crawling insects were seen on walls and floors under equipment.

    An employee with artificial fingernails and not wearing gloves was preparing food.

    Grease covered the main cook line hood filter/system and the back of a fryer. The front counter beverage station had residue accumulation near the drain and food residue on the inside of a single-door cooler near the drive thru.

    Food residue was seen on walls behind equipment such as shelving near the Frosty machine and on the floor underneath equipment such as ice machine near drive thru. There was also litter and other debris.

    Jamaica Mi Irie , 28 S. Main St., Greenville was inspected June 7 and received an 85 score.

    An inspector found food at an improper temperature, including lamb, oxtail, cabbage and gravy.

    Wet wiping cloths on counters were not properly stored/maintained in a sanitizing solution.

    Grease, food debris and grime were seen on the stove top, walls and floor.

    Tequilas Mexican Restaurant, 655-P Fairview Road, Simpsonville, was inspected on June 13 and received a score of 85.

    Improper temperature was found in queso and a pan of menudo.

    Also, improper temperature was found in a walk-in cooler that held raw beef, raw chicken, beans and salsa.

    Outside, there were used oil spills on the pavement and no lids on trash bins.
