YMCA Greenville CEO To Retire; Successor Named

After more than 20 years as CEO and President of YMCA of Greenville, Scot Baddley will retire at the end of September. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Sam Franklin, is being promoted to President and CEO.

Since 2004, Baddley has led the 10-site YMCA association – which includes family branch facilities, YMCA Camp Greenville, a year-round residential camp, a community outreach center, and the South Carolina Youth in Government program.

Baddley has built strategic partnerships, spearheaded large-scale community health awareness programs, and grown philanthropic support. He also focused on wellness initiatives and youth and teen enrichment programs.

He led more than $20 million in capital development projects, created new facilities and expanded existing ones.

Under his leadership, the number of children and families served by the YMCA of Greenville increased from 12,000 in 2004 to over 70,000 today. It is the largest YMCA in the state.

Membership revenue grew, program revenue grew, and the operating budget grew from $9 million to $20 million during the past 20 years.

Baddley created a financial development model and a staff/volunteer leadership team that produced a 77% growth in overall funding and a 300% increase in proceeds from the annual campaign.

This year, the YMCA of Greenville raised more than $1.45 million for its annual campaign, the highest amount in the association’s history.

Baddley began his 44-year YMCA career as a lifeguard and swimming instructor in Clinton, Mississippi. He progressed through the ranks of leadership positions in Mississippi and South Carolina to become the seventh President and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville.

“Scot’s life has dovetailed with the YMCA’s mission, which focuses on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” says Brad Hughes, chair of the Metro Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greenville. “His vision, resilience, fortitude and faith have been instrumental in the lives and needs of thousands of children and families in our community.”

Hughes also expressed confidence in Franklin, who will take over as CEO in October. Franklin was unanimously selected by the Board of Directors.

Baddley said that he will have enduring memories of people in the Greenville community.

“What an absolute privilege it has been to lead this YMCA and to help advance its mission of building a healthy spirit, mind and body for all,” he said.

Bon Secours Launches New Pharmacy Downtown

Bon Secours St. Francis is debuting a new Harness Health retail pharmacy at its downtown hospital, allowing the health system to launch two programs that will make it easier for patients to get their prescribed medications.

When patients don’t get their medications, they are more likely to develop complications and end up back in the hospital, said Ginger Schworm Berrie, Director of Retail Pharmacy for Harness Health.

The health system’s first program, Meds to Beds, which will allow prescriptions will be delivered to patients at their bedside before discharge. The program will improve patient adherence and understanding of their medications, eliminate potential errors, and create a smoother transition from inpatient to outpatient care, Berrie said.

Meds to Beds will be implemented in phases until it is available to all patients leaving the hospital.

The hospital will also collaborate with Medications of Hope to provide medications free of charge to those who qualify. Medications of Hope, a nonprofit distributor, represents a nationwide collective of nonprofit pharmacies and clinics. Pharmaceutical manufacturers donate all medications.

Bon Secours will dispense vital medications to low-income, chronically ill patients who enroll and meet eligibility requirements.

“We know patients who have put off their care or skipped buying medications that are imperative to their treatment because they can’t afford it. This program will help us remove that barrier,” said Myia Lindsey, Harness Health pharmacy supervisor at Bon Secours.

The Harness Health Pharmacy at Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown Hospital will be open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s one of three in the Upstate; others are inside the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center and at the health system’s Simpsonville medical campus.

The pharmacies will also refill prescriptions, administer vaccinations, and help navigate insurance benefits.

Harness Health Pharmacy has over 30 locations across Ohio, Virginia, Kentucky and South Carolina.

Bon Secours St. Francis Health System offers other programs to help patients obtain medications if they do not qualify for Medications of Hope. For information, go to bonsecours.com.
