A Greenwich teenager and the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich have partnered to prevent drownings in town. A ribbon-cutting was held Thursday for the life jacket loan station at Lake Simmons, located on Lake Avenue. The station is stocked with Coast Guard-approved life jackets that are available to children and adults in all sizes for free. There are also instructions on how to wear the life jackets and water safety information. The station was built by Sydney Cohn and Boys & Girls Club members. Cohn says the project is an opportunity for her to honor her brother Zac, who drowned in their family's pool when he was 6 years old. As result of the tragedy, Cohn's family founded The
ZAC Foundation , a Greenwich-based water safety nonprofit. "Life jackets save lives and some kids just don't have access to them and so we want to make it more available to them. And this is just the start of what we are going to do. We're going to try to build it on the coast of Greenwich and coast of Stamford and hopefully we can get that done," said Cohn. The ribbon-cutting was held on World Drowning Prevention Day and days before the 17-year anniversary of Zac's death. "
