Westfield veteran calls for change to property tax law
A Westfield veteran has started a grassroots campaign to lobby elected leaders at the state level to increase the property tax deduction for veterans in Indiana. Mike Madigan served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. An Illinois native who lived in Wisconsin before moving to Indiana in 2020, Madigan said when he moved to Westfield, he was surprised to find the property tax exemption in the Hoosier State is far different from what was available in Wisconsin.
Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation installs “Bison & Calf” sculpture by Dominic Benhura in Central Park
Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) installed a new sculpture in Central Park. The sculpture, titled “Bison & Calf,” was created by artist Dominic Benhura of Zimbabwe. Benhura is an internationally renowned sculptor whose artwork is known for exploring themes of family, the natural environment, and the relationship between them. Another of Benhura’s sculptures, titled “Swing Me Higher, Mama,” was installed in Carmel in 2022, located on the southeast corner of the intersection at Main Street and Veterans Way.

Hotel coming to site of old VCSC building
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Plans to tear down the old Vigo County School Corporation building have been announced. The building at Seventh and Wabash has been vacant for several years since it was acquired by Terre Haute’s redevelopment department back in 2021. While the timing of the demolition is unknown, it has been decided that the site will be used to build another hotel. Redevelopment department director Jordan Marvel says Terre Haute hotels are constantly near capacity.
