Derek Jeter's Greenwood Lake mansion under contract

In case you missed it, the grand Greenwood Lake getaway owned by Yankees legend Derek Jeter is finally under contract after years of market struggles. Known locally as Jeter's "castle," the property was most recently listed in late May for $6.3 million after Jeter had been unsuccessful in selling the property at the $15 million price point he sought for years.

Having been in the Hall of Famers family for more than 70 years, Jeter acquired the mansion in the early 2000s. Sitting just north of the New York-New Jersey border, the property features a main house, guest house, pool house and boat house. The six-bedroom, 13-bathroom mansion offers 12,5000-square-feet of living space, nearly 4 acres of land, an infinity pool, gardens and 700 feet of lakefront.

Considering adding a pool to your North Jersey home? Here are the pros, cons and costs

New Jersey is officially in the midst of its first heat wave of the summer, and there's a lot more days with soaring temperatures ahead of us. This means that many of us have probably started to consider whether its worth adding a pool to our properties. In fact, pool permit applications in New Jersey have spiked in recent years.

But is it worth it? While Bankrate estimated that adding a pool can boost one's home value by about 7%, the construction of an in-ground pool in New Jersey can cost as much as $59,000. Plus, having a pool will also create ongoing maintenance expenses, so it's important to consider whether the costs will outweigh the potential value increase.

There's also other things to consider, like that the average swimming pool takes between 18,000 and 20,000 gallons of water to fill — not factoring in water splashing out or evaporation — as well that a pool pump could use between 3,000 and 5,000 kilowatt hour of electricity per year.

So before you make any quick decisions about adding a pool to your home, consider all of the pros and cons outlined by business reporter Daniel Munoz.

Two NJ cities named among the worst places for a staycation in the nation

Staycations and day trips are easy ways to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life without having to commit to traveling to far away destinations. But certain locations offer more options for entertainment, relaxation and experiences than others, meaning there's some spots you might want to avoid.

Out of 182 total cities ranked by WalletHub based on recreation, food and entertainment, and rest and relaxation, Jersey City and Newark ranked among the 20 worst cities for a staycation in the Nation. Newark ranked 167th overall — coming in 119th for recreations, 132nd for food and entertainment, and 165th for rest and relaxation — while Jersey City ranked 168th overall and had individual rankings of 127th for food and entertainment, 137th for recreation and 170th for rest and relaxation.

Fremont, California; Irving, Texas; Pearl City, Hawaii; Chula Vista, California; and Yonkers, New York, were the top five worst cities in the nation for a staycation. The top five best cities for a staycation included Orlando, Florida; Honolulu, Hawaii; Cincinnati, Ohio; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Tampa, Florida.
