Nebraska offers 2026 wide receiver
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a scholarship to a top player in the class of 2026. Xavier McDonald is a four-star wide receiver from Morton High School in Morton, MS. Last season, as a sophomore, he appeared in 11 varsity football games. McDonald made 56 receptions for 1,166 yards and 16 touchdowns. The wideout has been a popular name on the recruiting trail. Nebraska is the 15th scholarship offer, with McDonald already holding offers from Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. The SEC appears to be a front-runner for his commitment. According to On3’s Recruitment Prediction Machine, Auburn is the early leader. The Huskers do not hold any commitments to the class of 2026 but have extended numerous offers in the past week. Colorado Golden Buffaloes 2024 Football Preview
Since both schools left the Big XII conference, Colorado is 3-0 against Nebraska, with all three games being ones where the Huskers had more than their share of opportunities to win those games. In 2018, it was a controversial tackle by Jacob Callier that knocked Adrian Martinez out of the game late. In 2019, the Huskers blew a 17-0 lead in the fourth quarter. And last year, Jeff Sims turned the ball over four times with inexplicable decisions to throw the ball directly to Colorado defensive backs, compounded by the inability to field a snap or hand off the ball cleanly.
Nebraska Countdown to Kickoff: No. 44 DL Riley Von Poppel
The countdown to Nebraska’s season opener on August 31 against the University of Texas at El Paso Miners is down to just 44 days, bringing Huskers sophomore defensive lineman Riley Von Poppel in today’s player spotlight. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Van Poppel was a frequent sight on the field last season in his first year with the program, playing in each of the Huskers’ last 11 games. On the season, the Argyle, Texas native recorded five tackles, one tackle for loss, and half a sack. An understudy to nose tackle Nash Hutmacher, Van Poppel is expected to once again have a rotational role for the Huskers in 2024. He’ll get frequent playing time and could take a big step forward from his freshman season if all progresses well. Following this fall, Van Poppel would be in line to become the Huskers starting defensive tackle as Nash Hutmacher is expected to exhaust his eligibility this fall.
