Man killed in crash while hauling trash in southwest Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A McCook city employee was killed Thursday morning in a crash. Just before 8 a.m., a semitrailer hauling trash crashed in Hitchcock County, according to the city. The driver, Wayne Cook, was pronounced dead. He was heading to a landfill near Ogallala, the city said.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a scholarship to a top player in the class of 2026. Xavier McDonald is a four-star wide receiver from Morton High School in Morton, MS. Last season, as a sophomore, he appeared in 11 varsity football games. McDonald made 56 receptions for 1,166 yards and 16 touchdowns. The wideout has been a popular name on the recruiting trail. Nebraska is the 15th scholarship offer, with McDonald already holding offers from Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. The SEC appears to be a front-runner for his commitment.
