A bomb threat at Marlette Regional Hospital prompted all Aspire Rural Health System locations to go into lockdown Friday afternoon, according to authorities. The Marlette Police Department was contacted shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday, August 16, about a possible bomb threat at Marlette Regional Hospital, with preliminary information indicating that a patient from Caro had made a statement regarding the hospital’s security and safety.

Regina A. "Jean" Gerstenberger
Regina Ann “Jean” Gerstenberger, née Bigler, 97, of Kimball Township, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024. Jean was born December 8, 1926 in Cobden, Illinois to the late Frederick August Bigler and Frances Joan Bigler, née Ihle. She was an independent spirit who left her family farm in Carbondale, Illinois as a young woman to pursue her own path in Port Huron, Michigan. Here she worked in a factory, excelled at softball, and met the love of her life, Elwyn “Al” Gerstenberger. They were married on July 3, 1948 in Marysville. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2013 after 64 years of marriage.

Chesterfield Township police are looking for a woman who went missing early Friday after being struck by a vehicle on 26 Mile Road. Officers responded to the area of 26 Mile and County Line roads shortly before 4 a.m. Friday for a report of an injury accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, police said. The driver of the vehicle reported he was driving eastbound on 26 Mile Road, west of County Line Road, when he struck a white female who had been walking in the roadway with his passenger side mirror.
