Catching A Rocket Can Be A Special Moment For A Father And Son

My 7-year-old son is somewhat of an engineer. I wanted him to see SpaceX's incredible engineering feat of catching a rocket booster.

Before I started the video, I explained to him what made SpaceX special. That they are trying to save money by reusing rocket boosters made sense to him immediately. I asked how he would solve the same problem.

Is answers impressed me: "I would let it land in water."

I explained the issues

"I would have it land on a trampoline, but it would need to be a few miles wide," I asked why "because of the bounces". I explained why it wouldn't work. He said, "well then I'd make it 6 inches thick". Clever.

He was also concerned about the heat of the booster falling through the atmosphere.

Then I showed him the video. We were high-fiving each other after. It was special.
