    Greenwood Flips Endorsement

    2024-08-20

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- As political analysis continues to show Pennsylvania as key in the upcoming presidential election, former GOP Congressman Jim Greenwood of Bucks County, a lifelong Republican, has taken two steps to back the race’s Democratic candidate.

Greenwood endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris over Republican nominee Donald Trump, and soon thereafter launched “Pennsylvania Republicans for Harris.” That statewide effort, coordinated with former Lancaster County GOP Chairwoman Ann Womble, said it aims to reach all Pennsylvania Republicans including the 158,000 who voted for Nikki Haley in the state’s spring primary.

“I need a president that I’m proud of to represent our country,” said Greenwood, who once represented Bucks in the First Congressional District, during a recent press conference

Greenwood criticized former President Trump as a “conman,” “narcissist” and cited “a lack of character” that makes him unfit for a return to the presidency.

“I have supported every single Republican candidate for president, from Richard Nixon all the way through to Romney. I made an exception, and continue to make an exception, when it comes to Trump,” said Greenwood, who backed Joe Biden in 2020.

The former Bucks County representative said he and Womble plan to coordinate Republican support for Harris, and would engage in voter outreach, host events, knock on doors and make phone calls.

For her part, Womble said she is not aligned with Harris on every issue, but trusts the vice president’s leadership and her support for NATO and her ability to find common ground.

“Donald Trump is a convicted felon,” she said. “His aim is to regain presidential power in order to amass power for himself and his allies – this is obvious to anyone with a set of eyes. He cannot be trusted to do what’s right for this county because he lacks basic character.”

The Trump campaign did not respond to comment on the Pennsylvania Republicans for Harris group.
