With the debut of the Cruisin’ for a Cause fundraiser, Sandy’s Helping Hands was able to raise $15,000 for a local man undergoing treatment for stage four kidney failure.

This year, the car show returns in hopes of bringing in funds to keep the longtime nonprofit organization going and helping as many people as possible.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, Sandy’s Helping Hands will provide the car and motorcycle show, food, a bouncy house, music by music by DJ Rhythmic Moments, raffles and a silent auction at the Pleasant Home Saloon, 31637 S.E. Dodge Park Blvd., Gresham.

Raffle prizes have only gotten bigger and better this year, now including a Traeger grill with a gift certificate to White’s Meats, multiple different getaways, service packages for car detailing and beauty services and more.

“We always need income,” said SHH Board Vice President Niki Tubbin, who is organizing the event. “We do a lot in the community, but we also do a lot that people don’t see.”

Every year, Sandy’s Helping Hands cares for families and individuals in need of assistance to pay for housing, utilities, medical bills and more, and often they don’t publicize these acts to preserve the privacy and dignity of the people they serve.

For years, the nonprofit has hosted Camo Con, a pub crawl in Sandy, as one of its major fundraisers. The car show, Tubbin said, is a family event.

Thanks to generous donors and sponsors, 100% of the money raised at Cruisin’ for a Cause goes to Sandy’s Helping Hands then back into the community.

“I appreciate that (last year) we had so much support,” Tubbin said. “Our goal was to register 50 cars ... we had over 100 cars the day of. It was the hottest day of the year but everyone stuck it out and had smiles on their faces.”

Those interested in registering a car can do so in advance online at tinyurl.com/ypka4a7r . Deadline to register is Monday, July 8.

It costs $25 to register a car or truck and $20 to register a motorcycle or ATV.

Admission for those just attending the show is free of charge.
