Habitat for Humanity announced a ground breaking on a new affordable housing project in Rockwood later this month.

Myrtlewood Way, 17640 N.E. Glisan St., will bring 20 townhomes, with two to five-bedroom units. Alongside the Gresham development, Habitat is also breaking ground on a project in Hillsdale.

“Homeownership comes with many benefits, including housing stability and the potential for building generational wealth,” said Metro Council President Lynn Peterson. “Creative solutions like these can make home ownership affordable and improve equitable access to wealth for families in our community.”

The homes at Myrtlewood Way will have monthly mortgage rates set to 30% of the buyer’s income. It will follow a community land trust model, in which nonprofit Proud Ground will own the land beneath the homes as the buildings are sold, keeping the prices of the homes affordable into the future.

The projects are funded through a variety of sources, including $9.3 million from the voter-approved Metro Regional Government affordable housing bond.

The Rockwood project will commence with a ceremony Tuesday, July 30.
