In an effort to “strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships,” Gresham is participating in the National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

From 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Main City Park, 219 S. Main Ave. in Gresham, guests can enjoy free ice cream floats from The Mobile Scoop Shop and meet the city’s fire and police departments.

“It’s fun to activate parks,” Jake Ostrow, community events specialist, said. “Also, the opportunity to for police and fire to really engage with the community, with no negative ramifications, to build positive interactions, I think that’s great.”

Attendees can explore the expansive firetrucks and fully-equipped police cars, as well as talk to their first responders to learn more about what they do in the community.

If you’re looking to chance your look, try out the face painting, along with chances to dance to music and enjoy a bubble show.

The summertime fun doesn’t stop at Main City Park, other block parties happen throughout the city, some spanning in the weeks to come.

National Night Out is intended to bring police and neighbors together, and Gresham has extended its connection to including fire personnel.

“It’s just a really to opportunity to build a sense of community, make Gresham safer and build some trust and positive relationships,” Ostrow said.

“Getting our public safety team to engage with the community in a positive manner is something I’m really looking forward to,” he said.

One food vendor will have dinner options for sale in the park, but it is also encouraged for participants to peruse options in Downtown Gresham and support local businesses.
