Walkers and runners will recreate for a cause next month in Gresham — raising funds and awareness for senior services, food insecurity, survivors of domestic violence, and sexual assault and human trafficking prevention.

The first-ever ¡Viva La Vida! Walk & Run, hosted by El Programa Hispano Catolico, will take place Saturday morning, Aug. 10, at Main City Park, 219 S. Main Ave.

The event will have two runs:

At 8:30 a.m. a 1-mile route that is Americans with Disabilities Act accessible and great for seniors or families with small children. This route is two big loops through the park, circling the baseball field and along the walkways. On the route will be educational signage to learn more about health issues affecting the Latino community. At 9:30 a.m. a 5K Walk/Run for adults and youths 12 and older. This is an out-and-back on the Springwater Corridor Trail, with the turnaround point being the intersection with Southeast Hogan Road.

There will also be informational booths, a kid’s scavenger hunt, yoga and tai chi classes, raffle prizes and more.

Each ticket includes an event t-shirt, raffle ticket and refreshments. Fees range from $25 and up and all go toward supporting El Programa Hispano Catolico services. Register online at tinyurl.com/27tyc8hw.

    For more information email communications@elprograma.org.

The debut event is sponsored by Metro Regional Government, Community Partner Outreach Program, Oregon Health Plan, Multnomah County, First Interstate Bank, Catholic Charities of Oregon and Legacy Health.
