Housing Bureau Expects to Exceed Unit Goals With 2016′s Bond Cash
Housing is usually a gloomy subject in Portland. Here’s some good news. Using a $258.4 million bond passed by voters in 2016, the Portland Housing Bureau says it’s on track to complete 1,859 units in 15 projects, beating its goal of 1,300, according to a report for 2023 presented to the City Council this week by Commissioner Carmen Rubio.

State officials report disturbing death toll amid heat wave: 'We are looking at the potential for breaking more records'
Studies show that our warming world increases the frequency and intensity of deadly heat waves. Heat waves have hit the Pacific Northwest this summer and are suspected of causing at least 16 deaths in Oregon alone, the Guardian reported. The actual number of heat-related deaths might be higher since experts say heat-related deaths are undercounted, as USA Today has noted.
Durkee Fire balloons to 182 square miles, Gov. Kotek invokes Conflagration
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for Durkee Fire in Baker County as officials say it has ballooned to 116,431 acres, or about 182 square miles, Sunday morning, with 0% containment.
Falls fire continues to grow in eastern Oregon; 15% contained
The Falls fire northwest of Burns has grown to 120,900 acres, the Northwest Incident Management Team 8 reported, a 3% increase since Saturday.
