Just before 9 a.m. on Friday, July 12, a 50-year-old woman fell down an embankment on the Oneonta Trail and called 911 to her rescue.

Within about 10 minutes, two Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies were on the trail and making way to the fallen hiker. Around 9:45 a.m., between Middle Oneonta Falls and Upper Oneonta Falls, she was found with no significant injuries.

Personnel from both Corbett Fire Department and Cascade Locks Fire and EMS responded and performed a rope rescue to recover the woman. She fell an estimated 80 feet down the embankment.

The hiker did not realize she had accidentally left the marked trail and found herself on a slope with fallen trees and loose ground when she lost her footing and fell.

Once they reached the trailhead she was able to hike herself out, and when they reached the trailhead parking lot around noon she was evaluated by medics and found with scrapes and bruises.

The woman opted to drive herself home and to not seek further medical evaluation.
