The Gresham Senior Center is celebrating a bounce-back from broken pipes and water damage last winter with the return of a car show and grand reopening.

The 6th Annual Car Show and Fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Multnomah County East Building parking lot, 600 N.E. Eighth St. The free gathering will have trophies awarded for the winning cars, games for kids, a silent auction with gift baskets, and a raffle for a handmade car-themed quilt.

The car show, co-hosted by Montavilla Sewing Center and Quilts of Valor, will have burgers courtesy the David Douglas Dad’s Club. The Historical Automobile Club of Oregon will judge the vehicles and assist with traffic control.

The car show is free to attend, and parking is available across the street at the TriMet structure. Registration can be done the morning of the event, or by visiting the senior center ahead of time. For more information contact 503-988-4860.

    Grand Reopening

The fun doesn’t stop for the Senior Center, as it will also host a grand reopening celebration Friday, Sept. 27.

Back in February the center was damaged during the winter storm, with a frozen sprinkler water pipe rupturing when the temperatures creeped back up. That led to major flooding and damage.

Crews dried the affected area using fans and heaters, but the ceiling, walls, carpets, computers and office furniture were all soaked and damaged. It was centered on the information desk, office, gift boutique store, and sewing/quilting room.

More information on the reopening will be released in the coming weeks.
