A block party and back-to-school resource fair is returning to Rockwood bigger and better than ever, with two days of fun for the whole family.

The 2024 Rock the Block is back Friday-Saturday, Aug. 23-24, at Downtown Rockwood, 18535 S.E. Stark St. Much of the fun at the free gathering is centered on the Rockwood Market Hall, which is filled with restaurants and retailers, and a central community plaza with kids playground.

    Block Party

    5-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23

Two musical acts will provide a night of live music. Dreckig is the opener, helmed by Papi Fimbres and Shana Lindbeck, influenced by Cumbia’s melodious rhythms and German electronic compositions; followed by headliner Object Heavy, a soul band from California led by Richard Love and filled with veterans of the funk scene.

There will also be partner booths set up and drinks/meals available for purchase at the Market Hall.

    Resource Fair

    11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24

The true roots of Rock The Block brings the emphasis on kids and families. There will be free food, back-to-school giveaways like backpacks and school supplies, free haircuts, and dozens of local businesses and community organizations offering information and support. In total 500 backpacks and supply kits will be passed out.

There will also be activities like facepainting, a giant bubble show, splash pad and more.

Rock the Block is sponsored by Port of Portland, Legacy Healthy, Forrit Credit Union, Metro East Web Academy, and Rotary Club of the West Columbia Gorge.
