A Sam Barlow High School student is facing disciplinary action following accusations of racist rhetoric targeting David Douglas High School’s football team, according to the Gresham-Barlow School District.

Coaches with the high school’s team say players continue to be the subject of harassment following a recent KOIN 6 News report that uncovered the treatment the students had faced during games.

Marcell Frazier, a volunteer coach with the team, said he thought the report would lead other teams to be on their best behavior, but that has not been the case. He told KOIN 6 News that the Oregon School Activities Association has had to intervene in both Thursday and Friday night’s games due to reported racial slurs.

“It felt powerless in that moment of having another game,” Frazier said. “Now, four out of five weeks we’ve had incidents like this, so it’s just getting exhausting.”
