Gresham Fire contingent joins battle against Lone Rock Fire

20th Kiwanis Cruise In to vroom into Troutdale
Calling all chrome lovers, an annual car show is set to take over Downtown Troutdale. The 20th Kiwanis Annual Cruise In will be the place to be to soak in an incredible amount of cars from all decades. There will be nearly a hundred convertibles, Corvettes, customs and imports, muscle cars, rat rods and roadsters, trucks and motorcycles, and everything in between. The event is hosted by the Kiwanis Club of the Columbia Gorge, and will close down the Historic Columbia River Highway and several side streets in Downtown Troutdale temporarily to showcase all the amazing vehicles. The free event will run from 2-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, followed by a concert from 6-8 p.m. in Mayor’s Square. In addition to the cars, there will be shopping and dining opportunities with the many Troutdale businesses. There will also be some booths set up to explore.
Firefighters battle large blaze at Portland metal recycling facility
Portland Fire & Rescue crews are at the scene of a large fire at a metal recycling facility, as of mid-afternoon on Wednesday, July 17. Firefighters responded to the facility near 12000 N. Lombard St. to find the scrap pile burning around 1:25 p.m. Officials say they will need to use aerial ladder pipes to extinguish the fire, though it remains unclear how long the process will take. Oregon governor orders flags to half-staff in honor of late Senate President Peter Courtney
Gov. Tina Kotek ordered flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset on Thursday, July 18, in memory of the life and service of Peter Courtney, the former president of the Oregon State Senate and longest-serving state legislator in Oregon history. “President Courtney truly lived by example: he cared deeply for our state, for the people that he worked with, and above all, for his family with vigor, compassion and courage,” Kotek said in a written statement. “It was an honor to serve alongside him and I know his legacy will live on through his many efforts on behalf of Oregonians and in the memory of those who knew him.” Courtney died Tuesday, July 16. He was 81. Kotek’s office first announced the news that Courtney died of complications from cancer in his home, surrounded by family.
TriMet to improve Troutdale bus line, change late-night MAX service
