105th annual Crow Fair brings thousands to 'teepee capital of the world'
More than 25,000 people turned out for the 105th annual Crow Fair Aug. 16-18 in Crow Agency. The gathering attracts tribes from across the U.S. and Canada, and its nickname of “teepee capital of the world” refers to the fact that there are hundreds of teepees set up along the Little Bighorn River near Crow Agency. From little tykes of 3 or 4 years old to tribal elders, hundreds of tribal members dance at the powwow, which is the largest in Montana and one of the largest in the country. Drum groups from across the country provide drumming for the powwow.

BOZEMAN — The Montana State football team's two-deep depth chart for Saturday's season-opening game at New Mexico was released Monday afternoon. MSU offensive lineman Marcus Wehr is listed as the first-string right guard, while the main position he's played in his All-American career — right tackle — is occupied by Titan Fleischmann, with North Texas transfer Samora Ezekiel backing him up. Everett Carr is the second-string RG. Wehr started there in the 2023 season-ending playoff game against North Dakota State.
Outgoing Montana State President Waded Cruzado leaves lasting legacy in Bobcat athletics
BOZEMAN — Waded Cruzado had been in Washington, D.C., but she took a flight that got her to Seattle in time for the game. Montana State University’s President since January 2010, Cruzado took her seat in the University of Washington’s arena ready to see the Bobcat women’s basketball team play the Huskies in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. She saw the graphics and statistics on the scoreboard over the middle of the court and remarked to fellow MSU administrators that she wanted a similar one inside the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Billings and Kalispell Teams, Hospitals Unite to Stop the Stigma
Two teams, two towns, and two hospitals are coming together to "stop the stigma" and to support suicide prevention efforts here in Montana. Billings and Kalispell, Montana both serve as hosts to a couple of great baseball stadiums. I've visited both ballparks in the past week and a half. Dehler Park in Billings has the rims in the backdrop, and the Glacier Range Riders stadium in Kalispell- wow. The range, the mountains, and the pine trees in the background are hard to beat. You would enjoy just sitting in the Range Riders' Glacier Bank Park stadium- even if a baseball game wasn't taking place.

Around Hellgate and south to Goose Bay, north and south of White Earth and from the Silos to Pond 4 were the spots with the best fishing. Crankbaits, jigs and bottom bouncers with spinners or slow death rigs all had good results in 15 to 25 feet of water. Perch and rainbows are also being caught while using traditional walleye tackle. Rainbows are being caught on crankbaits or cowbells on the north end around Cemetary Island. Smallmouth bass are starting to show up around rocky points on the north end. An occasional rainbow or walleye is being caught from shore. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena.

ELEVATED EXPECTATIONS: Brott will play pivotal role on interior DL for Bobcats
The departure of defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez to the University of Washington was a big blow to the Montana State defensive line during the offseason. If the Bobcats are to make a jump this season, it’ll be important for fellow tackle Paul Brott and the entire MSU defensive front to elevate their performance.
