Wisconsin Burger Restaurant Now Open in Greater Phoenix
It’s hard to go wrong with the classic burger and beer combo. There’s just something about a well-made burger paired with a frosty pint of a favorite beverage that helps you forget about life’s troubles. At least for a few minutes (or until the bill comes). And if there’s one place in the country that knows a thing or two about quality beef, cheese, and brews, it’s Wisconsin. That is why a taphouse chain from Wisconsin makes too much sense. It combines everything the state is known for and squishes it down into a single restaurant. And now, that restaurant is opening a new location in greater Phoenix.
Month Long Chorizo Food Festival Has Kicked Off
Most food festivals around Tucson last for an afternoon. At most, the festival might roll over into a long weekend. The largest food festivals in the city generally span three days. However, there is one festival that takes place over the course of an entire month. In fact, we’re already an entire week into the festival. Thankfully, it lasts the entire month of October, so there’s still plenty of time to check out the festivities and, most importantly, the tastes of the one-of-a-kind event.
Fan Favorite Tucson BBQ Restaurant is Closing
There are a handful of great barbeque restaurants around Tucson. Sadly, those ranks are losing one, as a local BBQ eatery has made the announcement that it will close in the coming weeks. While it is unfortunate for local meat lovers that this location will be closing, with the timing of the announcement there still will be time to stop by and enjoy your favorite dish a few more times before it officially goes away for good.
Major Chain Restaurant in Phoenix Receives D-Level Inspection Report
Name-brand restaurants typically thrive at maintaining food safety while staying clean and preventing foodborne illnesses. These restaurants have very specific cleaning protocols in place, created and perfected at corporate headquarters. Regardless of if the restaurant is a franchise-owned or corporate-owned location, all of the same food safety requirements are in place. This is why the majority of brand-name restaurants thrive during health inspections. However, one restaurant in Phoenix, despite having access to corporate-crafted food safety resources, received a D-level health report during its most recent inspection.
Tucson Pizza Restaurant Fails 3rd Health Inspection in 2 Months
Most restaurants bounce back after poor inspection reviews. The problems are minor blips on the radar and the staff at the establishments do what they can to make the necessary improvements. However, while the majority of restaurants do what they can to correct previous faults, that cannot be said for all Tucson restaurants. One pizza restaurant in particular has continued to turn its back on inspection reports. At times it can take restaurants a few weeks to make certain violation corrections, especially when appliance-related, but for the third time in six weeks, this local cattery has failed its inspection, with a Probation rating in the mix as well.
Brand New Food & Art Festival Coming to Greater Tucson
Several fantastic food events are coming up here in Tucson in the coming weeks. With the weather finally dipping below triple digits, people – both those cooking food and those enjoying it – can finally come out and enjoy the days together. While the Tucson Meet Yourself folk festival is right around the corner and takes place this weekend from Friday to Sunday, there is another food-specific event coming in the weeks to come. So, if you cannot make it to the fan-favorite Meet Yourself event, there will be another opportunity to explore the culinary scene here in the Old Pueblo.
California-Based Restaurant Opens New Location in Greater Phoenix
Metro Phoenix is no stranger to California-based restaurants making the move east. It’s a logical expansion destination, especially with the ever-growing Valley population. Everything from pizza and sandwich shops to high-end date night destinations has migrated around Phoenix and its surrounding suburbs. The pipeline of restaurants will continue, as one of the latest additions to local culinary scenes from California has now officially opened in Mesa.
Fan Favorite Chandler Restaurant Closes
Sometimes the closure of a favorite restaurant can blindside you. The announcement might come out of nowhere, despite perceived success and a continual flow of tourists. There are just so many behind-the-scenes activities it’s impossible to fully know what is going on. For one local Chandler restaurant, the rather sudden closure after four successful years has left many patrons wondering what happened. And yet, despite the closure, the owners are hoping to make a comeback in the near future.
Tucson Food Truck, Popular For its Dumplings and Tots is Closing
Big or small, restaurant closure announcements are always laced with disappointment. Regardless of whether owners are retiring, moving on to pursue other dreams, or were unable to make the establishment work, the closure means patrons will likely no longer be able to enjoy their favorite meals and dishes. While disappointment is part of life, seeing a restaurant close never gets any easier. Here in Tucson, after a slew of closures earlier in the summer, the sector cooled off a bit, as restaurants geared up for the return of college students, snowbirds, and cooler weather. Despite the annual improvements, one local food vendor has announced he will serve his last official meal later in the year.
Chandler Restaurant Hit With 10 Violations, Including Using Meat From Mystery Supplier
In anything in life, there’s always going to be a first place and a last place. Someone that does something the best, and someone that does something the worst. Typically, we don’t keep track of the worst of the worst, but it’s possible to figure it out, including in restaurant health inspections. Comparing results over the course of an entire year can be difficult, as around greater Phoenix there are tens of thousands of food-handling establishments around the Valley. However, in terms of the last 1,030 restaurants to receive a visit from the health department, one Chandler restaurant received the highest number of critical violations.
Philly Cheesesteak Restaurant From Denver Opening in Greater Phoenix
Do you enjoy a solid Philly cheesesteak? What if the restaurant hails not from Pennsylvania but from Colorado? It’s an interesting twist to a regional cuisine, but the restaurant’s close proximity to Arizona has made it that much easier to pop up in greater Phoenix. As long as you’re open to a cheesesteak coming from somewhere other than its namesake, this could be great news, as the brand makes its first push into the Valley.
Local Tucson Mexican Restaurant Hit With 10 Health Code Violations
Restaurants have performed fairly adequately in their annual health inspections over the past several weeks here in Tucson. There haven’t been too many extreme violation situations or restaurants being hit with Fail grades. While the occasional poor grade has appeared, considering all food establishments inspected (ranging from sit-down restaurants to nursing homes serving food), it has been a good few weeks. With that said, one restaurant, which received a “Satisfactory” report, did have 10 violations earlier in the month.
Long-Delayed Pizza Restaurant Finally Opening In Greater Phoenix
Earlier in the year, a Houston-based pizza restaurant with historical ties to Italy announced it would make its Arizona debut in Mesa. However, the restaurant was originally supposed to open in the spring of 2024. As the calendar suggests, spring has come and gone and we are now fully enthralled in the middle of autumn (which, ideally, should bring down temperatures and AC bills). There were a number of delays with making the move, though it appears to finally be ready to launch in the Valley, with the possibility of additional locations to come.
Surging Rent Forces Burger Restaurant to Close After 13 Years, Move Across the Valley
There’s no shortage of reasons why a restaurant — even a popular one — closes. On occasion, the restaurant owner has some say in the matter. They might not like it, but there are, at times, ways to meditate or course-correct situations that lead to floundering establishments. And yet, at other times, it is completely taken out of their hands. Most specifically, rent. Landlords around greater Phoenix are surging rental costs, even after tenants have paid promptly month after month, year after year. One local burger restaurant faced the possibility of closing due to rent issues, but instead has pivoted and will move across the Valley in order to keep its doors open, visitors happy, and workers employed.
Classic Tucson Pizza Shop Is Closing Original Pizzeria, Moving Locations
An old restaurant friend is saying goodbye here in Tucson. Or, at least the location of the restaurant is. Whether you’re a longtime local of the Old Pueblo, or you recently made the move, chances are you’ve at least seen the Rocco’s Little Chicago Pizzeria sign at 2707 East Broadway. It might not have the same pizzaz as other neon signs of yesteryear scattered about the city, but Rocco’s sign has remained a steadfast reminder to anyone driving along Broadway. It’s about as classic as its classic Chicago deep-dish pizza. And while the pizza isn’t going away, the sign certainly is.
Popular Chain Restaurant Hit With "D" Health Inspection Grade
Almost without fail, chain restaurants perform exceptionally well during health inspections. Almost. There will always be the random bad apple. The one restaurant that underwhelms with a series of violations. Big brand fast food chains typically are the best, as cleaning is down to an analytical science (say what you will about McDonald’s, but the back kitchen area is almost always spotless). Other brands though struggle with staying on top of everything required for an acceptable performance grade, which is exactly what happened for one popular spot in Tempe.
Quiznos Opening New Restaurant in Tucson, 30 More Locations in Arizona
It has been a strange couple of years for the sandwich segment of the restaurant industry. Mainstays like Subway have run into problems, as quality issues have bubbled to the surface (as well as significantly increased prices). A handful of regional sandwich shops, including several from California, have tried to move into metro Tucson. Still, many of these don’t have the brand recognition or have struggled to make any kind of significant dent in the Old Pueblo. In general, customers are hungry for affordable, well-made sandwiches. After all, anything else can be easily replaced by a homemade sandwich. One previous player in the industry though is looking to make a comeback in Arizona and is hoping to draw customers back with 30 new locations.
Popular Burger, Pizza Restaurant From Tennessee Opens New Location in the Valley
When it comes to sharing food with friends and family, it’s good for a restaurant to have a few different options. The last thing you want is someone in the group pouting in the corner of the booth because they’re stuck with pizza when they wanted fried chicken. It dampens the mood of everyone else. For one Tennessee restaurant transplant in the Valley, the food and drink menu is all about giving guests options – without overdoing it, that is. You can grab a burger or pizza or jalapeno poppers, all while pairing it with your favorite drinks, friends, and live music. And now, it has opened a new location in metro Phoenix.
Tucson's Massive Food, Folk, and Fun "Meet Yourself" Festival Returns For 50th Anniversary
One of the largest Tucson festivals is back and right around the corner. Tucson Meet Yourself is a folk festival with roots dating back decades. Over the years, it has done nothing but grow, bringing in new events, activities, and vendors. Plus, with its place on the calendar, it’s one of the first great weekends to really get outside with the family while avoiding the brutal summer and early autumn heat.
Pizza Restaurant Given "D" Heath Grade For Serving Mystery Meat, Food With " Yellow Organic Matter"
It has not been a great stretch for pizza restaurants around the Valley. At least in terms of inspections performed by the county health department. Almost every week there’s another pizza restaurant with a D-level score (or worse). Unfortunately, that trend continues, as a Phoenix-based pizza restaurant turned out its worst performance on record. However, as a consumer, it is always important to look into these inspections, look at what the violations were, and decide for yourself whether it is best to go, or to wait until the violations have been corrected.
