Modern Market Eatery Mysteriously Closes All Phoenix Restaurants Overnight

When a restaurant closes, the owner, or at the very least franchise holder, usually has some idea it’s coming. Rarely does a restaurant have its plug pulled without any kind of heads-up. But when dealing with a corporate entity, surprises can come. While rare, it does happen. What is unheard of is for an entire brand to entirely exit a metro area under the cover of darkness, without a peep, warning, or suggestion as to what caused the exodus. That is exactly what happened in metro Phoenix, as a restaurant instantly shut down three locations and pulled up stakes like a traveling circus.

Healthy eaters take heed, as Modern Market Eatery is no more. At least it is no more in the Valley. The restaurant, seemingly under the cover of darkness, closed every Phoenix location at the exact same time. This either came as a total surprise to the regional managers, or the brand was hiding it from consumers, as up until four days ago, Modern Market Eatery was responding to reviewers on Google and Yelp. Most restaurants, when exiting an area (or closing for good) won’t respond to comments.

The Facebook page for the Phoenix location is still active and posting content, even after the restaurant closed. It is obviously a managed account, and so these posts were either planned ahead of time or someone with no direct connection to the Valley locations is running the Facebook profiles. Still, it’s an odd look. The Modern Market Eatery website is currently in the process of purging away all references to the Arizona restaurants.

At the time of writing (July 17), the Scottsdale property located at 4821 North Scottsdale Road remains listed, but the property has been cleared out and it currently is up for rent. Western Retail Advisors represents the property.

It is strange when an entire brand not only ups and leaves a community, but completely abandons an entire state. With these closures, there is no longer any location remaining in all of Arizona. No updates have been given as to what causes the sudden hightailing out of town. This is unfortunate as the restaurants were reviewed favorably.

Known for a collection of healthy menu items, ranging from BBQ pizza, salmon Caesar salad, curry salmon, smoky chicken, and others, there were plenty of entries for everyone. However, now those looking for healthy alternative restaurants will need to go elsewhere.
