The unfortunate reality for any restaurant is that it will likely close. It might be a few years down the road, it might be a few decades down the road, but very few restaurants have a longevity that allows it to last generations. And yet, with that known, most restaurant owners have an understanding that it is hard work, so when one ends up closing after just three months, it’s more than a little surprising. No matter how good an eatery is, it takes time to generate a following and bring in customers. There is a natural uphill battle for any business in the beginning. Yet, despite this, a Phoenix restaurant has closed.

Located at 200 West Portland Street (Suite 101) in Phoenix, The Pairing Room never got off to a smooth start. The restaurant launched initially in April, but then by the time May came around the restaurant shut down for several weeks in order to make what it deemed as necessary tweaks.

For any business, it is often better to ride those early issues out instead of closing down as this abruptly stops any kind of momentum the new business might have generated. While there are some circumstances a brief shutdown is the only option, but, generally speaking, it is best to remain open and work through the issues in order to keep whatever early momentum going.

After the two-week closure, the restaurant did open back in June. However, by the time it opened again any positivity the restaurant had when it initially launched had been lost, and within six weeks the restaurant officially closed down.

In a post shared on Instagram and Facebook, the restaurant said, “The Pairing Room is Permanently Closed.” It thanked customers for their support. The message itself was as brief as the restaurant’s tenure. The restaurant event went as far as to turn of comments for both its Instagram and Facebook posts. Few restaurants turn off comments on a goodbye post, so management was likely expecting some kind of quip regarding the restaurant’s longevity (or lack thereof).

The restaurant gave no signs it was planning such a move, but yet with the choppy launch, this ending was likely inevitable. So, for now, 200 West Portland Street will remain vacant, although with its location, chances are another restaurant will move in quickly. We can only hope it proves more successful than The Pairing Room.
