It hasn’t been a great week for Phoenix-area restaurants, as several have closed, and even more have announced their closures in recent days. Unfortunately, the trend continues, as a fun-filled eatery in Gilbert has put up the white flag. Sometimes that’s all a business is able to do. When the finances don’t line up and there are few paths to success, there are no other options other than to announce a closure.

Located at 1422 West Warner Road, Mr. Zeke’s Restaurant made no announcement to the closure. Despite semi-regular postings on the restaurant’s Facebook page, nobody alluded to a forthcoming closure. There wasn’t even a notice from the one remaining location about the closure. Not until word of mouth regarding the closure did the information begin to spread. Google reviewers started posting on the Mr. Zeke’s Restaurant listing that the front doors were locked up, lights were off, and even the phone number had been disconnected.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t even a sign on the front door, which is what made it so difficult to know if the restaurant had closed or not. However, Mr. Zeke’s did seem to go from fully operational to locked up overnight. This is especially unfortunate because there is a second Mr. Zeke’s Restaurant in Lakeside. This reflects poorly on the restaurant that is still open, as the Gilbert location was unable to inform customers of its closure, even after the fact.

In the world of customer service, you often learn more about a business when it closes than when it is open. This is one of those instances when it speaks volumes. If a restaurant is unable to keep its patrons informed – even with a basic sign on the front door for those who might stop by – it offers a window into operations.

Naturally, as there was no information provided as to the restaurant closing shop, there’s no information about why this might have happened. Customer relations? It’s difficult to know. However, for those patrons who would like to continue enjoying the food, the second location is a bit of a hike from the Valley. However, if you find yourself driving to Albuquerque and feel like stopping by for a familiar meal (or simply to ask what in the world happened with the Gilbert location), you can do so. The Lakeside restaurant is located at 476 West White Mountain Blvd. It is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 AM until 8 PM, Thursday and Sunday from 8 AM until 8 PM, and on Friday and Saturday from 8 AM until 9 PM.
