    Shad Festival packed with activies

    The 52nd Annual Grifton Shad Festival is packed with events and entertainment from April 18-21, organizers said.

    Fun Time Amusement & Rides will set up downtown Thursday, April 18, and offer $20 wrist bands from 5-9 p.m.; $25 wrist bands from 5-10 p.m. on Friday, April 19; and tickets only from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Food vendors, marketplace and craft vendors, Mo’s Pub beer garden, music and entertainment, and the Shad Shack also will be available from April 18-20.

    The annual Shad-O bingo games will be in the Grifton School Cafeteria from 7-9 p.m. on April 19. MOCO (Morgan & Company) will perform 6–7:30 p.m. and The Main Event Band from 8–11 p.m. on April 19 at the Grifton Train Depot.

    The Grifton Shad Festival Art Show will be at the Shad Shack Building, 6851 Pitt St., from noon–5 p.m. on April 19 and 1-4 p.m. on April 20. The Grifton Museum and Civic Center will be open noon-5 p.m. April 19-20.

    Opening ceremonies for events on Saturday, April 20, begin at 10 a.m. at the parade reviewing stand with remarks from Mayor Billy Ray Jackson and master of ceremonies John Moore and the introduction of Grand Marshal Mermaid Splash The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and presentations of parade trophies and fishing tournament trophies is at 11:45 a.m. Events throughout the day include:

    10 a.m.–4:30 p.m.: Helicopter rides by Total Flight Solution at River Road/Horse Stables10 a.m.–3 p.m.: Petting zoo and pony rides by Briley Farms on Queen Street10 a.m.–5 p.m.: Antique tractor show by Gerald Cuttington on Queen Street10 a.m. — 5 p.m.: Cruise-in car show by Backyard Bandits and Carolina Classic Cruisers on Queen StreetNoon: Shad Festival fish stew and fried fish plates at the shelter behind Town CommonsNoon: Carolina Heat martial arts demonstration at the parade standNoon-6 p.m.: Sky High Entertainment Show on Queen Street with stilt walking by Sky, juggling and bubble entertainment, LED robot stilt walking and fire jugglingNoon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.: Protown BMX Stunt Team shows on West Queen Street12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.: Magic by David on Queen Street12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.: Mermaid Meet and Greet at the Town Commons1 p.m. 2 p.m.: Authentic Mexican dance team at the Parade Stand1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.: Soap Bubble Circus on Queen Street1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.: Circus Stella with circus acts and rescued dogs at the Town Commons2 p.m.–5 p.m.: Shad Toss between the bank parking lot and Depot2 p.m.-5 p.m.: Dunking booth on Queen Street2 p.m.-6 p.m.: Gospel music by Anthony Gonzales at Mattie’s Mini Park2 p.m.-4 p.m.: Lizzie and Friends6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.: The Donald Thompson Band at the Grifton Depot8 p.m.-11 p.m.: The Tams as well as drawing for raffles and fireworks at the Grifton Depot

    Sunday, April 21

    9 a.m.: Community Church Service at Creekside Overlook Park with service by Pastors Michael King and Jamie Haddock. All are welcome to bring a chair, enjoy the fellowship and the view1 p.m.: Great Contentnea Creek Duck Race, hot dog sale, and Tick Bite Kayak Regatta presented by the Grifton Shad Festival, Grifton Volunteer Fire Department and Sound Rivers
