Pella Community Foundation Grants Open Through October
Applications are open for non-profit organizations for grants through the Pella Community Foundation. President Jim Brandl says in 2023, the foundation moved up the deadline and there was a slight drop in enrollees, and this year, he wants more creators of potential projects to seek support. Brandl says any official non-profit organization in the Pella area can apply for support for a wide range of needs through a larger Impact grant or their board-directed options. Knoxville Raceway Lowers The Curtain On The Sprint Car Season Tonight
The 2024 sprint car season at the Knoxville Raceway comes to an end tonight with Season Championship Night as three track champions will be crowned. Two of the three may go down to the final laps of the A-Main as Austin McCarl holds a 95 point lead over Aaron Reutzel as those are the only two drivers that are still mathematically alive for the title. In the Pro Sprints, up to six drivers are still mathematically alive with Mike Mayberry holding a 76 point lead over J Kinder. Kinder started slowly the first two week’s but has been on fire since winning four of five nights earlier in the season. The only class that does not have much drama tonight is the 360s where Jamie Ball only needs to take his Time trial laps and he will clinch his first career track championship. Centennial Football aiming for another trip to dome
ANKENY – The Centennial Jaguars made it all the way to the semifinals of the 5A postseason last year and are aiming for another trip to the dome this year. The Jags went just 5-4 in the regular season, earning the 13 seed in the playoffs. Centennial lost in the semifinals to rival Ankeny 10-7.

Diocese of Sioux City priest charged with theft, fraud
ALGONA, Iowa (KCAU) — An Iowa priest affiliated with the Catholic Diocese of Sioux City has been accused of misappropriating nearly $70,000 in funds. The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that Father Steven McLoud, 65, of Fort Dodge, has been charged with first-degree theft and first-degree fraudulent practices, both felonies.
Sac City’s Cattlemen’s Steakhouse Celebrating Manger Being Recognized As Iowa’s 40 “Women To Watch” In Hospitality Industry
The restaurant manager for the Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in Sac City has been named one of the “40 Women to Watch” in Iowa’s Hospitality industry. Chelsea Funk has been nominated for her exceptional customer service skills, displaying a passion for her customers, the Cattlemen’s Steakhouse team, and the business. Funk has worked in service for most of her life, working in her mother’s bakery before becoming a server at the popular Sac City restaurant. It was not uncommon for customers to request to sit at one of Funk’s serving tables. A promotion to shift manager came quickly to Funk. She started working on the bar portion of the restaurant, spending almost a year and a half developing one of the top state craft cocktail and bourbon menus alongside the 2024 Top Mixologist Ellie Rastetter. Funk was nominated by her team, being defined as the “very essence of hospitality.” All 40 award winners will be recognized during the Iowa Restaurant Association Annual Celebrating Excellence Awards Ceremony on November 18, part of the Iowa Hospitality Showcase.
A Homes For Iowa House Has Been Delivered To Glidden
The Homes for Iowa spec house has arrived in Glidden and is awaiting to be placed on the foundation to give another option for affordable housing in the community. Last spring, the Glidden City Council approved donating a lot in a subdivision that has sat vacant for 15 years to Region XII Council of Governments (COG) for a two-bedroom, one-bath home to be constructed and delivered to Glidden through the HFI program. This opportunity has been made possible through financial assistance from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Workforce Housing Tax Credit program. The house will be placed on the foundation next week and hooked up to utilities. Once completed, the house will be available for purchase. Questions or interested buyers are asked to contact City Administrator Brooke Peterson for more information.

Charlene (Speed) Lamberti along with her husband, Donald, have formally announced the $1-million gift on Saturday, August 24, as part of the community’s Pumpkin Days celebration.

Noelck Family Presented Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award Friday
Friday, the Isreal (Is) and Kristin Noelck family of Franklin County was presented the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award during a presentation at the Hampton Country Club. Noelck Farms was established in the 1960s by Ivan and Karen Noelck. Their son, Is, joined the operation in 1992. Now, more than three decades later, the multi-generational family farm includes Is and his wife, Kristin, and their three children: sons Isaiah and his wife Reann and their daughter Halston; Noah and his fiancé Maci; and daughter Isabella.
Miller-Meeks aids in securing nearly $1.5 million award for UI
U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, helped obtain nearly $1.5 million of congressional funding disbursed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Miller-Meeks stopped at Van Allen Hall on the University of Iowa’s campus on Friday afternoon to meet with university faculty, tour space equipment, and discuss the importance of funding for the Iowa workforce.
