Dispose of chemicals, pesticides safely
Sometimes some weeds are too hard to kill without some chemical help, and that is OK. Using pesticides can be scary to use for some, and they only get used sparingly. It is pretty common to only buy enough to kill that one patch of poison ivy or Canada thistle, etc. and never using it again until the pesky weed shows up again.
Police shoot escaped, aggressive dog
WABASH — Wabash Police Department were dispatched last week to subdue an aggressive, potentially dangerous dog. The escaped animal was in the 100 block of Ross Avenue. According to a police report, a homeowner on Ross Avenue called 9-11 dispatch last Wednesday reporting a large dog outside of residence preventing homeowners from leaving. The request for assistance ultimately led to the shooting of a family K-9, according to Wabash City Police Department Public Information Office Captain Chad Galligan.

Portion Of Center Street In Flora Closed To Street Parking Tomorrow Through July 24
The Town of Flora issued a notice for the community that beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, July 17, street parking will not be permitted in areas of Center Street due to testing. Beginning tomorrow, July 17 through Wednesday, July 24, street parking will not be permitted from the 200 Block of South Center Street through the 900 Block of South Center Street in Flora from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. as a Vactor truck will be conducting lead and copper tests in the area.
Wabash announces inaugural class of Global Health direct admits
Seven incoming freshmen make up the first group of students to receive direct admissions into Wabash College’s Global Health Initiative. Ryan Bartley, Vitor Ferrari, Hugh Ford, Zane Huber, Khushnud Ochilov, Jonathan Parackattu and Gino Park emerged from a competitive group of applicants to make up this inaugural class. The group represents three countries and three states.

Alice M. Elzbeck, 84, of Delphi, formerly of Camden, passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family at 3:28 pm Friday July 12,2024. She was born June 11,1940 near Walton to the late Raymond and Eunice Johnston Bieghler. She was a graduate of Camden High School. She married James E. Elzbeck on August 10,1973 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Camden. He preceded her in death on February 18,2000.

From Florida to Ireland, Jerry’s Leather Shop and Shoe Hospital has served customers beyond just Marion. The shop was first opened in 1984 by Jerry Wampler, initially spending its first two years on Washington Street before moving to the center of downtown on 104 E 4th St., Barry Lobdell, former owner of the business, said.

GARY A. WILSON
Gary A Wilson, 81, of Cutler, died Friday, July 12, 2024, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Gary was born on June 6, 1943, in Carroll County to the late Cleo and Martha Kelly Wilson. Gary’s work life was in the electrical supply business. He started at Ralph David in Logansport at the age of 20 as a delivery man and inside sales. He was also a sales manager in Marion. He retired as an Inventory Control Specialist at Kirby Risk in Lafayette. After retiring Gary enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his wife and family. On June 16, 1963, Gary married the love of his life Patty Ginn, and she survives. Gary was proud of being “a girl dad”. His girls kept him busy meeting their needs and enjoying their activities. Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years- Pat Wilson. Two daughters: Kristen (Don) Mason and Jenifer (Travis) Collier. His grandchildren: Brock Gasser, Brandon Gasser, Joshua Johnson, Colton Mason, Brianna Mason, Cheyenne Collier, Dakota Collier and Dalton Collier. His great grandchildren: Aziyah, Bella, Ellianna, Layla, Ava, Mareli and Josue. Two sisters: Dixie Ruman and Diana McCracken. Son-in-law: Rob Johnson. He is preceded by his parents and a daughter, Dona Johnson. The Wilson Family invite friends to visit Friday, July 19, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 S Center Street, Flora, IN 46929. The celebration of Gary Wilson’s Life will start at 1:00pm. Pastor Dave Falkenberg will officiate. Burial to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery. JIMMIE D. ALLEN
Jimmie D. Allen, 82, of Flora, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Jimmie was born to the late Dorval A. and Ruby Wilson Allen, October 16, 1939, in Cutler, Indiana. On May 29, 1959, Jimmie married the love of his life, Ruthann McCarty, in Cutler and she survives. He owned Allen Auto & Truck Svc on the corner of State Road 75 and 18 which was in the Allen Family since 1966. Jimmie’s dad, Dorval, had the business from 1966 to his death in 1980. Jimmie and Ruthann took over the business in 1980 until they retired in 2016. Jimmie and Ruthann enjoyed a well-deserved vacation after the sale of the station. Since retirement the Allen Family has enjoyed spending time at home and family vacations.

Longmire pleads guilty of one count of counterfeiting
A Rochester woman pleaded guilty of scamming city residents the same day she was sentenced on a previous conviction of taking advantage of a nursing home patient. Danielle L. Longmire, 27, 117 E. 10th St., pleaded guilty in Fulton Superior Court earlier this month of exploitation of a dependent and theft. A second exploitation charge and a fraud charge were dismissed as part of her plea agreement in that case. Her sentence, handed down by Judge Greg Heller, was 365 days in jail, suspended, and 365 days of probation.
SWAT locate drugs, firearms after shots fired
Marion Police SWAT executed a search warrant at a residence after investigating shots fired around the 900 block of East 27th Street Monday morning. At 3:58 a.m., Sergeant Cody Weigle heard what he believed to be shots fired and then observed a male fire three more shots before running into a residence on East 27th Street, according to a press release from MPD.
