The Mid continent grid is at risk due to the large number of coal fired generation plants that were forced to close down so renewables could take their place. The renewables have proven to be too weather dependent so the utilities in those states have to buy power from distant coal & gas fired power plants to make up the difference. It seems foolish to spend Billion$ to build new transmission lines to import more power from wind and solar farms. Texas leads the Nation in wind and solar power yet will be building gas fired generation plants all across the state to kick on when the renewables are shut down by the weather.
