A potentially disastrous situation was swiftly averted thanks to the vigilant actions of Cpl. Hobbs and Officer Kiser from the Groesbeck Police Department on August 4. Around 12:20 a.m., they responded to observed fire activity at the 1300 block of North Ellis. Smoke was spotted billowing from S&S Machining, prompting a quick call to the Groesbeck Fire Department.
In a remarkable display of teamwork, Mexia, Thornton, and Kosse Fire Departments also joined in to combat the blaze. Fortunately, their rapid response led to the containment and extinguishing of a small fire located on the 2nd floor of the building, which prevented further damage.
S&S Machining owner VJ Gupta expressed his heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the crucial role played by Cpl. Hobbs and the fire departments in preventing a potential disaster as well as his Plant Controller Tanya Mason and Machinist Shawn Perkins who helped assist the departments in the building.
According to Gupta, Cpl. Hobbs' keen observation and swift action were instrumental in catching the fire early.
"We just want to thank Tyrell Hobbs and Groesbeck Police as well as all three fire departments who came in," Gupta stated. "Cpl. Hobbs was patrolling outside and he saw some smoke coming out and that's how he caught it. The construction people were working and they left something going, but it was not a big fire. It just created so much smoke because everything was new. But it didn't do a whole lot of damage. We got saved because of Cpl. Hobbs."
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the local heroes and fire departments, a potentially catastrophic event was averted, and the community was spared from significant damage. Their swift response and coordinated efforts serve as a powerful testament to the invaluable role of law enforcement and emergency responders in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
