The second annual Chad Walker Memorial Fishing Tournament occurred on June 22 after it was rescheduled from its original April date due to area flooding. The tournament helped to bring in funds for scholarships to Groesbeck High School Seniors in memory of the late DPS Trooper, Chad Walker.
Trooper Chad Walker was shot and killed in the line of duty in Mexia in March 2021 as he was trying to help a man he believed to be stranded when the man shot him through his windshield.
Chad’s friends, family, and community have assisted in several things to keep his memory alive and fishing combined with helping kids through scholarships is on the top of their list, as it was one of Chad’s favorite pastimes.
Local grocer Brookshires generously donated water to ensure our participants and volunteers were hydrated at the Annual Chad Walker Fishing Tournament as well as many other local businesses and organizations helped aid in the cause.
In the fishing tournament, held at Lake Limestone, the results were; in the Bass category, Drake and Billy Nabors clinched first place with a total of 15.40 lbs, closely followed by Brandon and Justin in second place with 14.10 lbs, and Bert and Steve in third place with 12.38 lbs. The award for the Biggest Bass went to Scott and Seth, who reeled in a 4.98 lb beauty.
In the Catfish category, James Summers and Ted Beeman Jr (Camo) secured first place with a total of 11.12 lbs, followed by Jerry & Presley in second place with 7.04 lbs, and Ethan Campbell in third place with 5.58 lbs. In addition, James Summers and Ted Beeman Jr (Camo) also snagged the prize for the Biggest Catfish, weighing in at 4.14 lbs.
The tournament was a great success, and all participants showed impressive angling skills and support for the cause and community.
