The Groesbeck City Council made quick work of their meeting on Tuesday, July 16; taking action on the needed ground storage tank repairs and discussing the upcoming National Night Out event, among other things.
Economic Development Corporation Director TK Presley explained Resolution 24-R-05 (authorizing execution of a Performance Agreement with EDC) as completing a circle; a near-final step in the development process of a viable business project.
“A visionary on our city side saw fit and had an opportunity to get a piece of property that could be used for business development. The impasse is that the city cannot and does not engage in business development; the EDC does,” Presley said. “Approving this resolution is the city saying ‘we convey you this property to do this thing’, so tonight the EDC is presenting this performance agreement, fully fleshed out, signed, and ready to execute, so I’m asking for your approval.”
The resolution was quickly and easily approved. Keep an eye on future editions of the Journal for more information on the business setting up shop in Groesbeck!
Council revisited the matter of needed Ground Storage Tank Repair which was raised in the last meeting.
Public Works Director Keith Tilley contacted three Buy-Board contractors about repairs on the more critically unstable tank (the smaller of two) but had only received one quote at the time of the meeting.
“What I am asking Council to do is review the quote we’ve gotten, and go ahead and pull the trigger on that instead of waiting until the August meeting so the repairs can be made,” City Administrator Chris Henson said. “It’s in the $80,000 range, and would come from some of the remaining ARPA funds.”
The council approved the use of ARPA funds for the project and authorized Henson and Tilley to select the best quote once the other two are received.
The council also approved a proclamation in support of the National Night Out festivities planned for August 6. The nationwide annual event, dubbed a “large community party” by Henson, strives to increase the visibility of local law enforcement and build relations with the community through a fun-free night of games, food, and connection.
In other business, the council approved the consent agenda, issued the annual city warrant for fire truck payment, and heard from a citizen about loose dog fines during public comment.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20 at 6 p.m. in the City Commons.
