Officer Tammi Konvichka is new to town but will be a familiar face before you know it. She has been in law enforcement for nearly 30 years, beginning as a dispatcher in 1996 in Seabrook, located between Clear Lake and Trinity Bay on the outskirts of Houston. After dispatching for nearly seven years, Konvichka went through the police academy in 2001 and began her career as an officer at the Lakeview Police Department in Seabrook. She worked there for almost eleven years and then spent several years working in Franklin.
Konvichka said that what drew her to Groesbeck was the opening available at the PD, "My husband asked me if I would consider applying at Groesbeck, and he was telling me how good the department is, so that brought me here."
She doesn’t know what exactly drew her to law enforcement, just that it’s something she’s always been interested in. "I'm the only one in my family that is in law enforcement, other than a great uncle, but I didn't know that until after the fact," she said.
The only other job she has had was working for the school district of Needville while living in Beasley, west of Houston, as an alternative school paraprofessional. She had previous experience working with kids as a D.A.R.E. officer and enjoyed the work. "I was very structured, and that’s something those kids really needed, so it worked really well," Konvichka explained. Although she enjoyed the work, law enforcement was still her dream job, and she returned to it, stating that even if money were no object, she would still be doing the same thing.
In her free time, she runs a catering company with her sisters called Daddy’s Boys Brunch. They started out specializing in brunch-style foods but have since branched out. "I've done Indian food, we've done Mexican food, and Italian. We decorate cakes, cookies, all that kind of stuff, and it's all our own recipes. I love to cook," she said.
Konvichka explained that with any other spare time, she and her husband love to go camping. One of the first places they went after purchasing their camper many years ago was actually Fort Parker. "It was funny because my husband and I were talking about it the other day. Who would have thought, driving through here back in 2011 or 2012 when we were still living in the Houston area, that we would actually end up living here," she said.
She also claimed to have recently become hooked on cruising. "We went to the Virgin Islands for my 50th birthday last year, and I've got the bug to go back," Konvichka explained.
When asked about anything she might want people to know, she answered, "I'm a people person, so they should feel welcome to flag me down and talk to me anytime. That's one thing I love about here—it's community-oriented policing, and that's what drew me here. When I was in Franklin, it was all about writing tickets." She explained that she prefers her policing to be proactive rather than reactive.
Konvichka is eager to immerse herself in the community and looks forward to building strong relationships with the residents of Groesbeck. With her extensive experience and passion for proactive policing, she aims to make a positive impact and ensure the town remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
