(WWJ) — A Downriver family is grieving after a 24-year-old woman was killed in a jet ski crash last weekend.

Sue Goodaker Tolot of Grosse Ile said in a Facebook post her daughter Lauren Tolot (Duchee) was killed in what she described as a “wave runner accident” on the Livingston Channel in the Detroit River.

Grosse Ile Police responded to the crash, which happened around 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a report from the News Herald. The report says two jet skis collided southeast of Stony Island.

Authorities initially reported a 24-year-old Grosse Ile woman was seriously injured and an uninvolved boater who witnessed the crash took her to the Ellba-Mar Boat Club on Grosse Ile, according to the report. She was eventually taken to Corewell Hospital in Trenton, where she was pronounced dead.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Marine Division is still investigating the crash.

“We are in shock, devastated and heartbroken to advise that Lauren has gained her angel wings,” Tolot said in her Facebook post. “In my heart, she already was an angel. Rest in peace my sweet pea. We think of you daily, always will and love you forever.”

Hundreds of community members have shared their condolences on the Facebook post.
