BATON ROUGE - Investigators with the Baton Rouge Fire Department arrested a woman who allegedly set fire to a Tigerland Avenue apartment. The department was called to a fire on Tigerland Avenue on June 9. There was a fire in the rear bedroom of an apartment in the 4700 block, and investigators found it to be intentionally set.

Fatal shooting on Cedar Avenue marks 57th homicide in Baton Rouge city limits this year
BATON ROUGE — Sunday night's deadly shooting on Cedar Avenue was the 57th homicide in Baton Rouge this year, marking 2024 as the third deadliest year on record so far. According to Baton Rouge Police Department records, officers investigated 51 homicides during the first seven months of 2023. Documents show that there were 61 homicides inside city limits through July 2022 and the same number during the first seven months of 2021.
Geismar resident pushing back on proposed regional sewage plant location
GEISMAR, La. (WAFB) - Residents in Ascension Parish are pushing back on a proposed location for a regional sewer plant that would back up to some neighborhoods. This began when parish officials sold all of the parish’s sewer assets to the National Water Infrastructure (NWI). The regional sewer plant would consolidate 72 existing treatment plants that are currently located in neighborhoods and direct them to one regional plant. It would remove around 3.5 million gallons of water from local ditches and waterways to be treated at the new plant and then released into the Mississippi River.

Denham Springs man suspected of vehicle thefts arrested after attempting to flee from police
ALBANY — A suspected Denham Springs vehicle burglar was arrested Tuesday after fleeing from police, Livingston Parish deputies said. Lewis Lemon, 34, was arrested and processed into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on burglary charges. Deputies said Lemon was also arrested on other charges but did not specify, stating that the investigation is still ongoing.
