Groups seeking Mobile's opioid settlement funds asked to submit form
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — In July, Mobile city leaders approved a $154,000 consulting contract with The Helios Alliance to help them determine how to best spend $2.3 million in opioid settlement funds. The organization's founder Rayford Etherton says they're trying to get public engagement and are asking interested groups to fill out a form ahead of a community meeting September 4th. Etherton says they're focused on opioid use prevention, treatment, survivor programs and communication coordination.

Earthquake detected in northeast Alabama; no damage reported
A small earthquake occurred in northeast Alabama late Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed. The quake happened at 11:35 p.m. Friday. Its epicenter was about two and a half miles below the surface, less than half a mile north-northeast of the town of Section in Jackson County and about 6.7 miles south-southeast of Scottsboro.
