State funding sought for life sciences training in Roxbury
$50 million in state funding for life sciences training in Nubian Square hangs in the balance of legislative negotiations on an economic development bill. The partial funding for a $200 million development on the Blair parking lot was in the Massachusetts House version of the bill approved last month. The amendment was sponsored by Representatives John Moran of the South End and Chynah Tyler of Roxbury, who each represent sections of the square.

Around 11:50 a.m., a three-vehicle accident was reported on Union Street in Ipswich. Damage was minor, and no injuries were reported. At 12:20 p.m., Danvers police issued a BOLO after road rage was reported in their town. A man brandished a knife at another motorist, they said. The vehicle’s registration came back to an Ipswich address. Around 40 minutes later, the dispatcher said the man had been stopped in Middleton.

BOSTON (TCN) -- A 52-year-old attorney once touted as one of People magazine’s "most eligible bachelors" was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a woman in 2021 after a night out. WBZ-TV reports a judge sentenced Gary Zerola on Monday, July 15, to five to 10 years behind bars after he was convicted last month of rape. Police: Boston Man brandished axe while stealing juice and water
A Boston man is facing charges after allegedly brandishing an axe while stealing from a store in Charlestown, Wednesday. Alan Badgett, 33, was arrested after Boston police responded to Austin Street in Charlestown shortly after noon for a report of a threatening person with an axe. Police say Badgett allegedly took a juice bottle and multiple water bottles and told security he could take whatever he wanted before running away. Two officers arrived on Austin Street and were able to de-escalate the situation. Badgett was found with an axe on his person.
