The Grovetown Police Department is investigating after a 6-year-old girl drowned in a bathtub Thursday night.

At about 9:30 p.m., the Grovetown Police Department and Grovetown Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Summerfield Circle for a possible drowning involving a child, according to a news release from the police department.

When they arrived, they found Adelia Tutt, 6, unresponsive, lying on the bathroom floor, according to the release. Despite lifesaving efforts performed by officers, firefighters and Gold Cross EMS, she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

GPD investigators responded to the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, according to the release. They learned the girl was bathing with a 4-year-old old sibling in a garden style tub, when "for reasons yet to be determined," she became unresponsive and wound up face down in the water.

The 4-year-old did not have any injuries and said Tutt had "fallen asleep," according to the release.

The children's father was home during the drowning and stepped onto the porch to take a phone call at the time of the incident, according to the release. When he went back inside, he found Tutt in the tub.

No visible signs of injury or trauma were observed on Tutt's body, which was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy, according to police. The Department of Family and Children Services was notified and have temporarily placed the 4-year-old and a 14-year-old sibling, with special needs, with relatives.

The children's parents, Antonio Tutt and Chantrese Tutt, are "cooperating fully with the investigation," according to the release. Chantrese Tutt was out of the state at the time of the incident, but has since returned.

"As the cause of death has not yet been determined, this is an ongoing investigation pending the results of the autopsy as well as toxicology reports on Adelia," according to police. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tutt family during this terrible time."
